DIY: remove steering wheel mesh
I find it easier to cruise on the highway with the mesh removed from the bottom spoke. I dont know if honda wanted you to put your finger through there.... Maybe they thought it would tear your finger off in an accident. It doesnt seem like it would tear my finger off in an accident so i think its safe for me. Im not suggesting anyone do this to there car because it may not be safe for you... This is purely a DIY so you can see how i did it.
I didn't have a problem with the airbag going off but to be on the safe side when yo do it, you may want to dis connect the battery ![]() ![]() 1. Unscrew the 6 philips head screws from the back of the wheel.... ![]() 2. Pop off the little door on the back bottom of the wheel with a flat head driver. ![]() 3. Wrestle out the mesh piece from behind the steering wheel. Try not to scratch you silver paint off your steering wheel... ![]() Sexy leg picture. ![]() 4. Put your 6 philips screws back. The ones i marked purple are a doozy. Use a mirror to aim the purple screws back in the the holes. Without a mirror, you will probably drop those purple ones 2 or 3 times before getting them in correctly. (When they fell in on me, I just turned the steering wheel a few times and it fell out easily. I hope you are as lucky as me.) ![]() 5. Now to think of something creative to put there instead of the mesh... Enjoy ![]() Also you can always put it back when you decide to sell the car. Last edited by benmunger; 07-16-2007 at 09:03 PM. |

I kinda think it looks incomplete without the mesh. The two spokes of the wheel going left and right are filled, but now the bottom spoke has a gap in it. It gives me the feeling I get when I see a smile with a missing tooth.

Not to kill your thread but I work for honda\ acura
there are 2 t30mm nuts on each side of the wheel take those out and the airbag pops right out then get a 14mm socket and take out the steering wheel bolt and take off the wheel be sure to mark where u take off the wheel so u dont need a wherl alignment after putting it back on like he said though pop the little cap on the bottom of the wheel off and unplug the horn and airbag connectors this only take 10 min then those 8 screws are easy as pie to get too |
