Si Grille on LX Coupe (painted lower piece)

So I got around to installing my TW Si Grille this weekend. Of course I was not going to put the "Si" emblem on. However for anyone who has done this upgrade, they will know, cutting the emblem off results in a very ugly lower portion of the grille.

To fix this I removed the lower piece of the grille (gray portion), and decided to sand and paint. I used about 4 coats of Krylon Fusion for plastic (went with a textured pearl(ish) gunmetal. It's darker than stock, and the slight texture and pearl will hide water marks/dirt/scratches).

It was actually very easy. After cutting the Si base from the grille, I sanded it down with some 3M 180 grit until it was completely flat. Then I did a light sanding of the entire grille for better paint adhesion, followed by a quick wet sand. Finally, I washed the entire surface with Dawn dish soap, let it dry, and then did a quick wipe down with some Windex (you can use a mild paint thinner as well)...again this is just for better bonding of the paint.

Used about 4 thin coats over an hour period, and let it dry overnight. The can says it's dry in an hour, but I wanted to wait. It was completely dry by the next day, and should completely cure in about 7 days (chip resistant).

Put it all together, and installed my JDM emblems, and here she is:

Sorry the pics are not so clear (taken with my cell phone).

Oh and for JDM emblems I went with:

2006 EP3 Front (for the front)
2002 EP3 Front (for the rear) - Found that it fit perfectly, and is a bit bigger to fill the little indent on the non-Si lip spoiler.

Hmm... interesting. People usually use DC5 rears, right? Can you get a closer picture?

I will take a closer pic tomorrow (car is in for the evening).

I was going to go with the DC5 rear as well, but when I saw that the 06 EP3 Front fit so nicely on the rear, I was sold. The DC5 rear is a tiny bit smaller (not an issue for the Si rear since it has the raised spoiler), but with the non-Si rear lip spoiler I wanted to fill the little gap in the spoiler better.

I definitely was not trying to pass it off as an Si. I just like the color matched grille better.

I like it. Nice job on the paint work!

I really like the TW Civics. That was my second choice after ASM.

On the front? What color? If you mean to paint it black, I think that looks terrible.

Thanks. Yeah I would never do anything like that. I bought the Coupe as a daily driver, which is why I didn't get the Si (I would end up spending crazy amounts of money modding it).

I had a G35 Coupe that was my "fun" car that I modded like crazy. Just sold it, and I'm waiting to decide on a new weekend car.

What do you guys think of a NHBP Si grill (without the Si emblem) on a TW Sedan?

I don't think it'd look good stock. Maybe if you had a CF hood and had the middle portion of the lip (right beneath the grill) painted, then it'd flow.

I think thats what he means. Just the rounded part underneath the grille and license plate. But before the area around the fogs. I don't think it looks too bad. I actually even thought about it for my car. But I doubt it.

And by the way- nice car. It would look HAWTTTTT with new rims! I had to get rid of those fugly stock EX rims when I got mine. But nice ride!
