Did a little shopping
I ended up with a gift card for target today, so I did a little bit of shopping. My paint is looking not so hot so I wanted to kind of revive it. I looked around and decided on the Meguiars Color Doctor, but I haven't heard anything about it. Any opinions?
What I picked up today: (-the express shine, I picked that up at a dollar store that was closing for a dollar... lol) Scratch Doctor ![]() Meguiars Color Doctor (colorx, whateva) ![]() Turtle Wax Express Shine ![]() Microfiber applicator pads *they kind of resemble these, but they have a little handle that you can grip onto it with* ![]() And a gang of microfiber towels.. like 20 of them. (which, btw, I hate the feel of microfiber but I'm forcing myself to get used to it for my cars sake :P) Here's my question, if I use the scatchx and colorx at the same time, which one do I do first? I understand that the colorx has a purpose that is similar to the scratch x, but I would personally feel better if I did them both. Also, I've had a bottle of Turtle Wax bug and tar remover that I've been needing BADLY to use on my front end.. how do I work that into this equation? Pretty much any recommendation (sp) is very much so appreciated. Oh, and for the express shine, It's supposed to rain in a couple of days for about a week so I'm not really worried about using quality spray wax, if such a thing does indeed exist. I figured I would just lightly go over the whole car with it after I was done. Thanks in advance.

Thanks man.. that's actually what I was thinking, but the colorx is also a kind of wax so won't applying scratchx before the colorx make more sense? It's that that really messed with me.
Also, the bug and tar remover leaves a kind of film on the car.. hmph. |

Ah yes, the colorx thing that leaves "protection", yeah it does leave a little bit of protection. I wouldnt rely on it as my main layer of protection though so dont worry about it. The scratchx will have no problems with wax, it'll take wax right out. Colorx would be good before scratchx because colorx is chemical cleaner/wax and should leave the surface perfect for swirl removal. Just remember to spray wax the areas you decide use scratchx on if you dont intend to wax the whole car.
Oh yah, you might wanna claybar the car after the tar & bug step if you haven't done that before. Or if you're lazy just spot clay the areas you intend to use scratchx on just to be safe. edit : Yes, you can apply colorx after you use the scratchx, but I would do colorx first because I like to be sure that I'm working with a panel with little to no contaminents before doing some major polishing (with scratchx in this case). Come to think of it...if i were applying that stuff to my whole front bumper, I would squirt it on before I do the wash. Just squirt it on the dirty panel and wait a minute or two, then I would rinse it out or just go over it with my wash mitt/towel (when its wet and lubed of course) and proceed to wash my car normally. |

I originally had the intentions of applying Scratch-X to my whole car when I first bought the product. After I was done one quarter panel, I called it a day and slept! It really requires some serious elbow grease. I switched to a machine buffer ever since.
I think Scratch-X is most effective after a claybar session.

Yeah...scratchX really takes alot of effort to make it effective. If you feel that its not worth the effort to remove the micromarring you might want to use a glaze, it basically fills in the scratches so you dont see it as much or at all. The glaze doesnt last through many washes but that shouldnt be much of a problem if you use a quality wax over it to seal it in.

Yeah, the scratch x was a serious PITA to remove, but it seems like it was worth it. I really need to claybar and buff/wax my car sometime, but I don't have the money to buy a buffer right now so I'm kind of stuck on that one.
BTW, I followed your directions and things turned out great. Thanks again, bro |
