Performance or Sound System?

So I went to the local audio shop today to look at upgrading my whole stereo system, all speakers, sub, amp, etc.

Just wondering what some opinions are as far as what to do first, sound or performance? I eventually will do both, but im not going to spend all of my money and do them both at the same time. The reason im leaning towards doing sound first, I have 20,000 miles on the car, the factory warranty will be up in a year maybe then I will start working on upgrading performance?

Performance being CAI, Exhaust, Header(possibly) lowering springs, camber kit, wheels/tires, reflash etc.

It all depends on personal preference..... If you feel like you would enjoy the sound systemsooner get that, but what I am doing is having a mix of pleasure and performance.

Such as CAI, then Lowering, then System the engine stuff

This is so that I can keep interested in my car while still being able to show it off, for me having a fast car is second to making it a "balla" mobile and having a great system and making it look great. But the engine stuff comes after all that.

CAI is just thrown in there to make it sound sicker too haha

Its all just up to you, asking other people what you should do will end up with a million different responses... just do what you feel you want sooner.

Usually its better to get a cheap mod, expensive mod, cheap mod, expensive mod... This is so that you never go so long without changing something on your car but gives you enough time to enjoy the car and then appreciate the changes.

The benefit to performance-spending is that it also serves as a sound system in of itself :)

A good sound system with lots of subs like you sound like you want will HURT performance due to the 350 lbs of wire, frames, boxes, amps, magnets and screens. Then you will have to get all the bolt ons out there just to keep up with a stock Si. I was going to get better sound system like i had in my other cars with amps and subs and speakers. Then I looked in side myself and my budget and found that going faster in all directions is better than slowly loosing my hearing :) To each his own. Do what you like. Hope my words help in any way.

Umm yeah...I don't want "lots of subs", I'm not really looking to shake the neighborhood. I used to have two twelve's in the trunk(not into that anymore) of my 97' Civic Ex. I don't know that its gonna add 350lbs, but ok, maybe you were exaggerating. I'm more just looking at "upgrading" all of the speakers that are already there. I haven't decided whether or not i want to put in a sub box at all, I might just change out the 8" that's already there. Yes there would be some extra weight with an amp and wire etc. although i don't think it would be enough to make any significant difference.

Im thinking even two 10" subs in a box would probably weigh no more than 60-70lbs max, amp, wire another 30lbs maybe, if that...so 100lbs total? Anyone feel free to correct me if i'm mistaken, and if i was gonna run it at a track i could take out the box if needed.

I say go with the sound system, that is what I did. But I also have an AT LX Sedan, so performance stuff isn't really important to me.

Since I have an auto, I will start with the sound system first. I am also all about electronics and whatnot anyway.

I go through your dillemma allllll the time. I work at a tuning shop that does both performance and audio so its in my face alll the time. I did my audio first. Im just about done with the audio so Im happy and I can forget about it and just start focusing on the performance.

I didn't read all the posts, but I'll just add my $0.02.
Is it an Si? If it is, the Si has a pretty sweet stock sound system (compared to other gens of civics). That being said, I'd go performance for sure.

If it's an Si, performance all the way. Any other trim level, enjoy your gas mileage, and pump up the volume
