Fog Lamps...way too brittle

6 months into owning my Si and BOTH fog lamps are FUBAR. One's completely shattered, the other's now cracked. You'd think Honda would realize that fog lamps are GOING to take rocks/rock salt and make em a bit stronger.

$132 a piece (EACH!) retail for replacements. I'm tempted to try out the $49.95 OEM-knockoffs on ebay just cause it'll be cheaper to replace if/when they blow out again.

Anyone else having issues with the lamps cracking, or am I the only lucky one?

Try to put Lami-X over them, it helps a bit.

Join the club bro. the first week I had mine on my passenger side cracked. You have a couple options. you can follow the DIY and put Lexan inplace of the glass. You can order and cheap set off e-bay and replace them. Or you can go with a full blown retro. Its all depends on what your wallet will allow you to do.

Do a search, theres a DIY for placing a think plastic in place of the fragile crap they have. It looks like OEM and is STRONG!!

That won't help the broken ones. I say to put the blanks back in. I prefer the front end without the fogs. (especially reading all these threads that they are fragile)

I've has my OEM fogs in for about 2-3 weeks now. So far nothing, however i'm planning on putting lamin-x on them once the weathr gets a little warmer.

I'll be taking my Lamin-X off shortly.. it's burned in the middle, and I've tried very hard to keep the lights off while stationary. Be aware that this probably will happen to you, and you'll have burnt spots in the film.

That sucks. Does it leave any marks on the glass itself after it has been burned? Or does the burned lamin-x come right off?

FYI, I just called up Honda's customer service line (800.999.1009) to complain about the fogs. I mentioned to the call center lady that there were a TON of people having the same issue as me over the internet. I'm supposed to be getting a call back from the midwest regional contact by friday and will report back.

That being said, if they start getting flooded with calls about this, It'll help us all out. Pick up the phone, snag your VIN (since they'll need it), and call em up. takes ~10 minutes tops. Hours are 0600-1700 PST.

Heard back from a lady today. Basically, she said they'd contemplate replacing them, but wanted to know what i'd do if they broke again so quickly. I told her I'd appreciate the replacement now, and would take measures out of my own pocket (such as Lamin-X) to help protect them if its what it would take. I also said that I'd appreciate and expect Honda of America to investigate why exactly so many people are experiencing the same issue as it seems to be a material defect, either in materials or the manufacturing process.

She's calling me back tomorrow after talking to the dealer. Hopefully I'll have good news.

I've had fogs on two different civics. Both times both broke in less than 8 months. I didn't even bother to put them on the SI. Sad thing is they are the exact same fogs they used on the 7th gen and they didn't improve them at all.

So sadly I just won't get them.

If I had money to blow I would buy a set then go to Tap Plastics and have some lexan cut and intall them myself. That might do the trick.

I just bought some 40 mil PVC from Autozone - they had a ridonkulous clearance, so I got it for $1. I cut it up and placed it over my Lamin-X over my fogs. Yes I know, might be overkill, but you know what? I ain't passing it up for $1!

my k2 fogs haven't broke yet, but I already bought a piece of plexiglass to make 2 new lens when they do break. Honda has the same problem with their foglights on their Acura line. that's where the plexiglass fix came from, an Acura forum.
