Pretty convincing knockoff, at first glance

What do you guys think? I thought the packaging was pretty convincing, but the logo not even lined up on the top of the cap makes it pretty obvious that it's a fake. Is it legit? It would be a total steal if it were. Oh well, I got it for free.95 so I'm not sweating it. Maybe I'll just have it powder coated.

you'll run into bootleg mugen merch pretty often. if it is not ridiculously expensive, its probably fake. if it was sent from somewhere in china or se asia its most likely fake... but for 95 cents, who cares.

LOL it wasn't 95 cents, free ninety five is just a pun, I actually paid nothing for it. I just couldn't turn it down ya know. Even if fake, it looks better than the lame stock one.

Ha good catch, I didn't notice. I knew it wasn't legit, but you know, for free who cares. I think when I paint my VC I'll get it powder coated something neat.

Considering it's not legit and you put it on your car. Would it increase the chance of failing under pressure?

Its an oil cap, they are all made out of the same material (aluminum)

As long as it threads on tight, you won't have a problem

I never really understood getting an aluminum oil cap. I would probably burn my hand when I forget it's not plastic. Looks nice though.

A serious what? It's an obvious fake looking at the cap itself, I just haven't seen fakes with such legit looking packaging. Other than the one not so obvious typo. There's usually some glaring mistake like spelling Mugen "Mugun" or some **** like that. Just thought I would share. So feel free to gtfo.

i would be very cautious about putting replica engine parts in my bay even if its only an oil cap. I remember reading some magazine along time ago about replicas. they said replica oil caps can cause damage to your engine. I forget the reason though

the miss spelling does not prove it is fake actually...

Not saying this particular example is real though. Now a days most of the higher end knock off's have very convincing packaging and unless you have the real version on hand it can be very difficult to spot the fake. Hell even the lower end reps have somewhat legit looking packaging although it is a little easier to spot the fake just by the overall questionable quality.

an oil cap will not cause engine damage unless the aluminum cap dessenagrates small pieces of aluminum into your valvetrain causing catastrophic engine failure..lmao...chances of that happening...slim to non my friend ...does look better then oem thats for sure

Because magazine revenue comes from product advertising lol. I think a rep is just a more realistic price for some parts like this

Maybe in 1999 or 2001.

Exactly my friend, and free is better than $80 for a real one. Just like rep visors, who cares if they aren't real, they're freaking window visors. A piece of plastic to keep rain/wind/whatever out of your cracked windows.

Now there's something to be said about knockoff engine parts etc, but that's because reputable companies have engineering behind their parts, and that's what you're paying for. When it comes to replica oil caps, coolant reservoir covers, window visors, there's not a lot of engineering going on there and all you're paying for is the name.
