Ontario, Canada Tint
hey guys, I already know that there is Tint Law thread up but I don't understand the way they state the info. All I need to know is what is the MAX PERCENT allowed in the front driver and passenger side windows In Ontario.
Please tell me the MAX PERCENT! Don't give me info like this (4 inches / 35 % Film / 15 % Net / 5 % Net / 1994) Cause I don't get it. Thanks |

Ummmm, you should be fine with 15% tint on the front windows. Just as long as the officer can make out the driver through the tint, it's legal in Ontario.
I have 20% reflective tint all around on my other car, and I haven't been bothered about it in the 5 years I've had it. |

Where do you live in Ontario? I bet I can get away with 5% tints all around here in Ottawa, but I'd be asking to bend over for a cop if I did that in the GTA. Seeing as how you're geared towards having two different percentages of tints, then I would highly suggest you don't choose numbers that contrast like day and night (literally). I have 35 front/15 rear and back and I kind of regret not going one tint. I think going 20 all around is a good conservative number, possibly 15.

Yea, I live in Waterloo. West of Toronto. about an hour away. Why do you say that you regret not one tint all around?? I was thinking at least 35% front and 15% or 5% back? Oh yea also do you have any suggestions on what time to do it?? What weather conditions?? |

Most tint places (if not all) will not tint darker than 30-35% on the front, back you could do limo tint no problem. (around my area at least - GTA)
I know Tint King and others in my area won't do darker than 35% , they stated that when I looked into gettign it done by a shop, decided that saving the $200 and doing it myself was the best way, still kept it within what the shops recommended. Get away with what you think, just remember if you have to remove your tint because you wanted to push the limit and see how long it took before you were smacked on the hand for being a bad boy, it's not an easy job to do yourself (messy, smelly, loads of elbow grease), and some places will remove it for free or for a small charge. 35% & 5% looks sweet, night vision is fine through the rear when backing up, enjoy the pleasures of looking out and no one seeing in. caio, cr8tive |

To me, one tint % all around looks cleaner, but that's just me and I know opinions on that vary.
I've heard of people having to roll down their window and look out the side mirror when backing up at night with a 5% tint. It's legal, but bear in mind the inconvenience factor :) As Yodums said, the key point is that the cop has to be able to see you. I talked to an OPP officer (as I am looking to do tint in the spring) and he said exactly that. |

Go to Canadian Tire (or talk to a friend who works for a Tint company) Buy the tint , all it is film with adhisive that is activated with a water solution. Take a roll, measure it up on your window (tricks are to roll it down slightly to get a better match for the top, leave about 5mm on top around edge, use a nice sharp knife) do a window at a time. Spary down the window, seperate the tint and the clear film covering the adhisive side, wet that side down, carefully place the tint, top first onto the window, squigy down, gettign all the air bubbles out (approx 10% or less of the bubbles could be left behind, no worries, most of these will come out once the sun heats the film and it dries the adhisive (takes a few days, and you CANNOT open your windows) It's like that for all windows, the rear window is a bit of a challange, I didn't feel like removing the rear deck, so I made a tempalte for teh rear break light, looks good. If you have fingers, just adjust the tint with more solution, make sure you have a lot of paper towels or rags to wipe up the access, and remember teh water solution, all it is is water with a small amout of liquid soap, a nice squigy that you can cut and give an angled edge to would be good to have, if you visit some of the places that sell tint, they also sell tint kits with a small spray bottle and squigy. took me about 4hrs to do all my windows, rear and the two small triangle pieces in the front (i was confused why some tint places didn't want to do those, they were the easiest. If you still have fingers on the windows (long verticle air pockets) try to squigy them out a bit more, then get a heat gun , carefully apply heat to the entire window, more towards where the fingers are, and work them out by shrinking the ting film. voila, a quick diy kinda sorta. Tricks and tips of the pros... Use your finger nail as a guide to round your edges, always round your edges on the windows, makes it look clean , sweet . I took my Civic to the dealer two days after I bought it to speak with the sales person about some paint defacts I found, he came out and saw the tint job.. his comments were... WOW, nice tint, where did you get it done? How much? told him, cost me $5, a buck for the spray bottle, a few bucks for paper towel and some squigies. "nice", he did an inspection, saw the fingers and said, heat gun will take them out, .. Already bought one... turns out the sales guy was a manager at Tint King before he sold Hondas, and asked me how I didi the rounded edges *grins* Felt good to be a novice and get compliments from a guy in the know. He was impressed that I did it and it was my first try, asked me if I wanted to do more, I looked at him and said, Fat chance! Ah well.. I digress... Geezers are allowed too, comes with age. Hope this helps, ask away, I will try to answer what I can. ~Cr8tive. |

There are Tint Kings all over, their head office is in Richmond Hill. They charge per job, and what you want. Depending on the film, what you want tinted, if you want other things doen, etc. You will be looking at anything from $300+ as a broad guess. You can find it cheaper, just call tint places ask around. ~Cr8tive |

I have 35% all around on both of my car's. I have never been hassled and Ithink it looks perfect. I had a very dark tinit on my old VW (cant remember the #), but I had to roll down the windows at night to see backwards.
Also remember, the darker the interior is, the darker the tint will appear. And, if you do get pulled over, open the sunroof or sunsahed tolet some light in. The extra light will make the tint appear lighter and easier for the cop to see you. |
