Disappointed with Seibon..again!

I received my Seibon VSII hood a week or so ago, and finally got around to unpacking it.

For those who don't know, this is the hood with the large vent that has a sort of "H" pattern to it.

Where the left part of the "H" and the horizontal leading edge of the vent intersect, there is a roundish area of separation about an inch in size. It looks lighter than the rest of the hood because of this "bubble."

Shipping is so damn expensive on these items that I am hesitant to return it. I can feel an edge where the separation begins and am contemplating trying to "inject" some super-glue, or that windshield repair glue into it to see if I can fill it in, but I just don't know.

My other option is to just paint the damn thing, something I had considered before.

Or, I would have to just bite-the-bullet and ship it back for an exchange. Of course, I could just wind up with another flawed piece.

Seibon is supposed to be the "best," but this is the second time I received questionable quality from them - so shame on me..

Any thoughts or suggestions??...

You could call them and see about getting it replaced. Dunno if you'll get anywhere though. Seibon's customer service sucks ass.

I've never heard anything good about aftermarket carbon fiber hoods. My brother ended up shipping his back and going back to stock on his Integra. Their Build quality sucks.

Exactly, my friend. I thought about just putting it on and ignoring it, but damn, that's a lot of money to spend to have to look at it every day. Painting it GG is looking better all the time, but that may be another can-o-worms...

Not VIS. Seibon! Then again I'm sure both manufacturers have their hits and misses. I posted over on fgcoupe.com, but like I said there I vote for you to paint it as long as you think that it will cover the defect and take care of the problem.

I'm leaning towards silver with the mesh grille painted black.

I will go ahead and see what Seibon has to say. If they are useless, I think I will just go ahead & paint. I had the same idea - black grille. I want to keep it as low key as possible..

I managed to pull the terms & conditions page from Seibon's site. Here's a part:

"All returns, regardless of the underlying reason, must be sent shipping prepaid. Any returns sent shipping collect or without RA number will be refused and returned to the buyer at his or her own expense. Shipping costs to and from the purchaser are not refundable."

So, it looks like I'm going to get fuked for shipping both ways, regardless. That's another 2-300.00 expense I do not cared to endure. Might as well paint it..

Well, that's the last time I buy Seibon products.. Never again.

That sucks. Really wish Seibon could just give it a once over before shipping it to you..them knowing that this is going to be your second hood. Maybe they checked it..and missed that spot? Oh well. Thanks for the heads up on it!

I sent Seibon a-piece-of-my-mind, so to speak. If they reply, I will post their position. But, there's really no way this could have been missed, they just don't have any quality control.

The only way they will replace something free of charge is if you are sent the wrong item. But, in my mind, a defective unit is the same thing - as it's wrong too!

My guess is they are made overseas and packaged there too. Seibon just takes for granted that they are QC'd at the factory and they just stock them in their warehouse without ever looking at them. It's just business as usual, nothing personal..

The other bad thing is that as part of their dealer agreement, everything, like problems, gets pawned off back to their dealers. It is the dealers responsibility to get a return authorization, etc.. Seibon won't deal directly with the public - go figure..

In a perfect world this business plan "should" work, but it is not a perfect world and we have to suffer for it.

There is a way to fix it though - just don't buy their products. These forums are "the" court of public opinion. Hopefully, at least some, if not most, informed people will now send them a message by not buying from them and maybe they will wake up and fix their problems. If they don't someone will step up and do it right.

I figure if you buy a Seibon product you have about a 50/50 chance of getting a defective part. Those are pretty generous odds I think, considering I have bought two things from them and both had some kind of problem..

Never again!

I just received my VSII CF Hood last monday. Now im unsure whether this damage was pre-shipping or not but i feel your pain. You pay ~$500 for a brand new, undamaged hood. And just the hassle of sending it back is hard enough. I'm currently in the process of getting mine returned, ups will pick up tomorrow, inspect it, and notify the shipper. Hopefully things will work to our favor buddy. I will accept nothing less than a new hood. I would paint it but that just sorta defeats the purpose of getting the cf hood in the first place. I was also heavily considering purchasing the ViS wing w/ cf deck from the same vendor but with this i mean, one bad experience makes me weary of what to expect the next time. So, basically if they do not waive any shipping costs or replace the hood then they have just lost at least over $1000 of additional sales. [you figure you're not going to get that second product from them and by telling everyone about your bad experience at least one person will not purchase one item from them.] Forums can be a dangerous thing for vendors. I just hope threads like this one inspire them to do a 2 min overview of the product before shipped.
