Hood Weight

Okay so I'm thinkin of getting a Carbon Fiber hood. But does anyone know if there is even a big difference in weight between the stock hood and the CB hood? Because the stock hood doesn't even weigh that much too me. I mean I don't know if I'd be better off just painting my hood black. Any feedback?

um better off getting a cf hood for 2 reasons..
1. not much price diff...
2. you can put back the stock hood for resale purposes

Please don't!! From my limited experience with CF hoods they usually are around 1/3 of the weight of a stock hood.

P.S. invest in hood pins please i have seen to many cf hoods smack windows at high speeds!

No way. Not if you get a good fitting hood. Just make sure that it matches up with the factory latch and you will be fine. Hood pins not only look stupid, but they will ruin your paint and finish. No hood pins for me. Seibon straight black next spring!

It wont be worth the weight reduction to pay 500 bones for a CF hood for an EX. If you want it for looks then thats another question but not worth the money for weight reduction purposes IMO!

My prelude hood was about 50 pounds cuz its got such a huge front and the hood is rather big. and my carbon fiber hood, i would bet wieghed about 10 pounds!!!

But the civic already has a tiny light hood, my just rough guess-stimate would be about 13-20 pounds for the stock hood and prolly 5-10 for the carbon hood. But thats just my guess
Oh and do not paint your hood black i think that looks horrible, go with the carbon if you are interested and just hang onto your stock hood.
I never used hoodpins on my prelude and ive taken that to 150mph, so i doubt you'd need hoodpins and plus they hood hideious!!!

I don't know if I like seibon...from what i've seen t hey're an 'appearance' based carbon fiber company vs. a performance one. I believe they put a carbon fiber 'skin' over a skeleton made of a heavier material, instead of using the lightest carbon fiber material (not wet formed) throughout. You end up with saving only a pound or two over stock from what i've read.

I'd check into that, if they have a cf skin and a cf skeleton and it's all the lightweight stuff by all means go for it, utherwise you're just getting it for hte looks.

I would go with VIS racing sport for carbon fiber hoods. I heard bad things about seibon. Huge ass hood gaps and shit. Not with VIS though.
