A Sad, sad day...

So I was in a big rush today to get out of work, being late for my cousins wedding. I'm getting out of the parking garage, and of course, I'm on the phone explaining how I'm gonna be a little late. Mind you, it's a very cramped parking garage, with a lot of traffic.

As I'm about to exit, this lady is coming in the opposite direction as I am. Since I'm turning in her direction, I needed to maneuver away from her to make space for both of us. Considering in how much of a hurry I was, and the fact that I was still on the phone, I seemed to not notice a huge concrete support beam right next to me.

Ouch.

This is what happened. It actually looks much worse in person.

I feel so ashamed, as I couldve EASILY prevented this by being a little more careful. Simply getting off the phone wouldve helped. I guess I learned the hard way. I feel like a neglective father in some sort of way.

Anybody have an idea what the repairs are going to be like, and/or what will be involved? I cant stand seeing my car like this any longer.

I wish. It's MUCH worse in person. The door, the entire body panel, ect.. are completely dented. And "dented" is an understatement.

You're completely right.

I may even consider myself fortunate it was only the car that was damaged. It could've been much, much worse.

quarter panel is pushed in quite a bit, and same with door (scrapes, pushed in on the right of the door handle?)
i'm probably expecting the body shop you take it to replace both door and quarter panel.
sorry for your loss dude. never talk and drive.

I agree. Any rough estimate how much that's going to set me back?

And thanks. This experience really hit home.

I think it might cost you quite a bit. Looks like its gonna take a bit of time to fix that. Youre not gonna go through insurance? Go get some estimates!!

Or, just get sideskirts, it'll cover it up. Hahaha.

I almost owned my self because I was mutlitasking and not concentrating on actual driving but managed to avoid the close call. Sorry to hear what happened.

That's exactly what I thought. My cousin's father works at a body shop, and he was telling it wasn't a big deal. With all the parts, it should be done in less than a week.

And yes, I will be talking to the insurance about it. I believe the car has full coverage. I might just end up paying the deductible.

And mind sending me a reputable site for the side skirts? It might be worth taking a look into. Thanks.

Thankfully nothing happened to you or your ride. This little incident has really brought many more things to my attention. Imagine if it was a kid that had been hit.. At least damage to the car can be repaired.

man, sorry to hear!! but at least you sound like you have learned from it and you taking it well...i mean, if you had hit a kid, you really would have felt bad. I had a guy hit me like that last year and they had to replace just the quarter panel, and repaint the door, but i think your damage is worse. Mine cost around 3k for a new quarter panel, and paint match the trunk, roof and the door. Sorry man!

Damn sorry dude, that sucks. I can totally relate as something very similar happened to me and it made me feel like ****. Mine: Terrible Scrape

Something I can't stress enough is go to a reputable shop where you know they'll take care of you. I tried to go cheap and it was a nightmare. Really a terrible experience to deal with those people.

Thanks for the support, and I'm glad you were able to get yours fixed. Approximately how long did it take to get fixed?

And any suggestions for some aftermarket alternatives? I did think about the side skirts, but the quarter panel is too dented to just be covered up. And I'm positive the door needs to be replaced as well.

Thanks for the support buddy. After reading through your story, I can relate entirely. I feel exactly the same way you did.

As far as the shop goes, my cousin's father works there, and I've known them ever since I was little. It's not a big shop or anything, but I trust them. Hopefully it turns out ok.

Don't do sideskirts. That was a joke. Good luck on the repair. Metallic paint is always harder to fix.

Yipes! Tough break.

So, do you still drive distracted, or has this changed your habits?

This has completely changed my habits. I guess when you drive for so long, you take it for granted in a way.

It's a hard lesson learned, but a much needed one at that.

As much as it hurts me to say say, it was necessary.

Thanks, that helps a lot.

Would it be better for me to get them myself with the insurance money, or let them take care of it?
