Sound Deadening... Is it worth it?

I have read through many posts about this but most of the people who have done this have done it to an EX or LX and not an Si. Basically I have been thinking about sound deadening the majority of the car i.e. trunk doors, rear deck, wheel wells and if it isnt too hard the firewall. I mainly want to eliminate road noise and improve the over all acoustics of the car and get the car to be as dead as something more like a luxury vehicle, a Lexus for example. I was planning on doing this correctly i.e. deadener, then layer of closed cell foam topped off by some mass loaded vinyl. I am wondering if it is worth my time energy and money to attempt to get my 09 Si to sound as dead as a Lexus or is this an impossible task. Thanks for all of your input.

You think you can turn your Civic into a Lexus just by using some deadener in your car? If you want to sound as a Lexus, go buy a Lexus.

I dont think he aspires to transform his civic into a lexus

Won't all that material add significant weight to the car?

From what I can tell it will be about an extra 100lb at most, basically the weight of a naked run way model. And I don't particularly want a Lexus but if you want to give me the extra 20k over the cost of my Si I will certainly take it into consideration. All I am really looking for is whether or not sound deadening is worth my time and if it is going to make that much of a difference.

You are going to spend lots of money, time and add tons of weight to hear less out side = you being sad in the end IMO.

You have a "sports" car, enjoy it for what it is.

Sound deadening can definitely make your Si as quiet as a luxury car. That being said, the extra weight (as you mentioned, about 100lbs) will belittle the performance of your Si - a stark contrast to the vehicle's intended purpose.

If ultimate sound deadening and acoustical environment is your primary goal, then yes, deadening is worth the time, money and the effects will certainly be obvious. Btw, Second Skin Audio makes some quality deadening products..

Op, i can help you out a lot. I put sound deadening foam in my car it helped out a ton. And it only added about 20-30 lbs MAX to the weight. It took a full day to install and is well worth it. I happen to work for a foam fabricator, so it was pretty easy for me to get my hands on the right foam. Try to find a low density cross linked polyethylene. PM me if you have any questions.

you can actually make your civic as quiet, or quieter then a lexus with about 1000$ worth of properly placed deaden. Is it worth it or not, thats up to you.

I have a sub and it cut out every rattle. It also reduced the road noise. The car is a lot quieter on the inside. I had a cheap blue tooth and it picked up road noise. After I installed the sound deadening the person I was talking to couldn't hear road noise. It makes a big difference. I know it sounds stupid, but the doors feel/sound more solid when you close them.

i used the really thick weatherproof carpet padding against panels/wheel well/floor and bags of polyfill with foil tape inside the wells and other holes

this is a very lightweight solution and very effective my car is really quiet now

This is what you are looking for and you do not need to spend $1000. Look at this site www.quietcar.net
