i notice that it doesnt have a ring on the top. any know's how this works? or should i just get the auger shift boot?

I do, the pic on the strutking site of it installed, is from my car. You have to remove the ring from the stock shift boot to use on it, you just flip the stock boot inside out and the ring is held on by a zip tie. Buy a zip tie and attach the ring in the same way to the strutking boot.

Then install. There is a DIY that helps explain it a bit better with pics. Install isn't difficult at all and the boot looks great.
