Pronunciation Thread.

I want to start a proper pronunciation thread for name brands associated with our cars.

For starters:
Greddy.

greddie
or...
G - ready

Mugen
moo-jen
or...
mee-you-gin (hard 'g')

I used to pronounce GReddy like "Gready." But then I noticed the G and the R was capitalized, so I started pronouncing it Gee-Ready.

As for Mugen, I've only heard it being pronounced as Mew-Gen.

Moo-gen - cow sound in the first syllable and hard "g" in the second. From what I remember, Japanese doesn't have a soft "g" sound - they use a "j" to represent that sound in English.

Greddy - just like it looks - no separation of the first letter from the rest of the word. At least that's the way the company reps were pronouncing it at the SEMA IAS show in April.

I was talking to a japanese guy who owns an import store and asked him about the proper pronunciation of Tein.

Apparently he said it was like saying "teen".

I pronounce Tein like Tee-ennnnnn. If anyone is Chinese, sort of like "Tian" which is the character for sky.

How about Enkei?

I pronounce it En-kay. But I've heard so many variations.

Pronunciation of "Hondata"

Sorry to tell you, but "day-tuh" is the correct form.

"Data" is a commonly mispronounced word. You hear it on radio and TV a lot: Speakers saying "dah-tuh," or "da-tuh," with the "da" part sounding exactly like the da in "daddy."

^I stand corrected.

Edit: Although, I will agree with your pronounciation of Hondata, I'll argue the point of how to pronounce the word "data." It's just the Journalism and English major in me.

Main Entry: da·ta
Pronunciation: 'dA-t&, 'da- also 'dä-

True, but this is a helpful post for anyone who's new to the scene. This way you can talk about stuff without sounding like an idiot.
