Question Lights?

Does anyone out there know of some decent priced replacement bulbs that are the look of HID but not the high price? Sorry I know I am a poor college student and want to get by cheap. I have a blue car and think that bulbs with a blue tint would look great.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Z

silverstar by silvania make some in addition to a bunch of others. my suggestion is just to take your bulb in and ask a technician for what you need as a replacment. theyll probobly just do it for you for free. they did for my mom on her accord. they part number is in a post further down if you realy need to know it.

yha im a poor college student too. i hope one day to have enough money to upgrade to naty lite.

i havnt heard anything about those lights adversely effecting the wireing. i have heard that you can get pulled over and get a "fix-it" ticket for them being too blue or too bright.

you do have to be careful on the bulbs. Some of the "blue hid-ish" looking lights that plug into the stock lights are a different wattage. Just make sure it's the same as the stock bulbs when you swap out.

Honestly I never had a set of the "blue HID" lights last much more than 4-6 months. They didn't tend to last, and I tried countless brands. I finally purchase silverstars and they lasted. They are still going after 2 years and they are brighter than stock lights - (just not as blueish as the fake hids).

Hey, my wife and I are 35 and haven't been college students since we graduated in 92 and we're still poor. But more importantly we have a nice ride.

You do have to be careful about which bulbs to go with. Check with local law enforcement about the brightness/whiteness/blueish (not sure what they are called... lol) laws. I've heard great things about the silverstars, they can be a little pricey but worth it.

Yes Silverstars are decent replacement bulbs. I bought them once, thinking it was gonna ba a whiter light but wasn't really that much difference. They do cost about $35 bucks/pair though. Try not to touch the bulbs with your fingers when putting them in. Oils off of you fingers will shorten the life of them.

Hey all,
Good info here, I won't be spending big bucks on HIDs. Will go with the silverstars. Thanks

Good point about not touching the bulb with your fingers! Use a rag, towel, cloth, something so those oils don't get on there.

I realize this is an old thread, but has anyone changed out their High Beams yet? Does it help to remove the "yellow" look from the DRLS? I don't want to remove the fuse, because I want the lights on, but I just hate that yellow look. Thanks.

isn't the high beam bulb also the drl bulb? I know its a 9005 and that is a double filament bulb. I have the silverstars sitting at my house i just haven't installed them yet.

Yeah. The high beam is the DRL bulb. But with the stock lights, the DRL lights are yellowish, while the high beam is bright white. It's the same bulb. That's why I ask if changing to Silverstars is actually going to help. Sure, the brights will be brighter and you'll see more, but will it get rid of the yellow? Let me know when you switch bulbs. I'd hate to spend the money and not get the results.
Thanks!

ok just installed silverstars in my low and high beams. the low beams look great i have to say i am very happy with the results for only spending $20 on each bulb. As for the drls, they look alot better (less yellow and brighter) however there is still a slight yellow tint to them. I put one in and looked at it next to the stock one and you can tell a huge diff. but it still has a little yellow. Hope this helps you make your decision. BTW tried to take pictures but it was too dark and the lights just looked like dots in the dark.

Hey, thanks! I'm pretty sure I'm going to Wal-Mart and Target today to price the lights. I'll definitely be getting some soon.
