Carbon Fiber Trunk - Best Brand?

Hi all,

I am looking into getting a carbon fiber trunk for my coupe in the near future. For those of you who have a CF trunk already, what is your experience with your CF trunk (please specify brand)?

I am particularly interested in the build quality and fitment of the trunk.

Thanks for the help and insight!

Cheers.

J

I would assume so because you will need to transfer the latch mechanism from your stock trunk to the cf one...which will automatically give you the ability to pop the trunk.

Do you actually have the VIS, or are you just spouting from random opinions on the interwebs? I have the VIS, and it fits like crap even after a hour of adjusting it. What'd you do differently from the rest of us?

Zeuceone knows everything about everything, which is why he sticks to one sentence replies. nice avatar BTW. hahaha.

I prefer the Seibon, and yes it has mounting holes for the trunk popper. It's got just about everything you need, but one thing you may need to do is dremel the sockets for the license plate lights. Mine fit without any dremelling, but they were very snug so I opened them up a bit to make it easier for me to swap out my trunk on a regular basis.

The only VIS product I openly support is their spoiler, and even that could have used some refinement as it has patches of carbon fiber missing, leaving the fiberglass underbody exposed. Looks really unprofessional

Oh no thats horrible. I was looking into the same trunk/spoiler setup for the spring possibly. I want the trunk still, but I need a unique CF spoiler for my car.

Hi J

Here are my 2 cents, from what i know it doesn't really matter if you buy VIS or Seibon its really a hit and miss with each trunk and or CF hood that you purchase. Some will fit perfectly and some wont be as flush as others, its just the way that the trunks/hoods are made (hence you have people that like/dislike VIS or Seibon because that particular trunk/hood they bought fit or didn't fit perfectly). I dont know the process of how Seibon or VIS makes their CF parts but I am assuming its just cast off of a stock trunk/hood which they make the CF part from. I am also uncertain if they use one cast or a cast of a cast to make more CF hoods/trunk, if they use a cast of a cast then there are some chances of imperfections (not sure if that makes sense). I myself have a VIS hood that i bought off a member on here for a decent price because he had some problems with the fitment, I am not sure if it will fit better on my car because i haven't tried it out (due to winter, I also have a Seibon CF hood that is also waiting go on and i am uncertain of the fitment for that as wel). It might fit worse or it might fit better, but that's basically what i know as far as CF Trunks and their fitment is concerned. Also with CF trunks another problem that you might want to keep in mind and avoid running into is the quick pop of the trunk when you open it, since it is so light it snaps back really fast, some people toss on wings etc or change the spring that opens the trunk or ad weights to the trunk to keep it from snapping like it does. Good luck

I ordered a seibon cf trunk, spoiler, and hood a while ago. I ended up just installing the hood and trunk. The company gave me a vis one instead of seibon for some reason. The fitment wasn't perfect but I drilled holes lower where the latch goes and it fits perfect now. The only problem I had was that it faded within a few months.

My question for the trunk is I got the VIS Mugen RR CF Hood.
It seems to be Kevlar CF cause the hood pops yellow hard in the light.
I want a matching trunk and OEM style CF wing to my Mugen RR Hood.
Anyone know if VIS does a kevlar hood and wing?

I really dont want it to be gray in color and not match. Any help will be greatly appreciated

What my hood looks like in the light.
