Guidance on getting some damage fixed

Hi all,

I went to a collision center this morning to get an estimate on fixing the very small scrapes on the driver's side rear bumper of my 06 SI (Galaxy Gray).

They quoted me damn near $700 to take off the bumper (and taillights, which i think is incorrect), sand, paint, cure, and re-install.

Mind you, this is for a total of about 2 square inches of scraped/removed paint.

Oh, and it would take 2 days.

Can I buy a factory-painted rear bumper anywhere? It seems like College Hills is not painted.

How hard is it to un-install/re-install the bumper? Is it possible for me to either replace the bumper myself, or take it off, drive it to the collision center and drop it off for fixing, and then re-install it myself?

I need some help here guys.....I can't do this for $700.

Joe

I have never done a rear bumper on these new civic, but I am pretty sure the tail lights do need to come out. You can take it to a different shop for an quote. This does seem a little high for just a sand a repaint of a bumper.

I'm not sure about your car, but I did some dent removal on my own when I got rear ended in my hybrid. I didn't have to take the taillights out at all to remove the bumper, though the flange beneath them was already bent upward for me in the collision. Even so, it can't be that hard to remove taillights, and 700 is just outlandish. I suggest you take it to another shop for a second opinion.

My wifes Accord had the same thing done awhile ago. Removed bumper, etc. Don't know how much different it is to do a Civic's.

$350.

Just go to a few more shops and see what they offer.
