help! my fog light lens are melting

i have a fbp 2008 civic si coupe and aftermarket fog lights were installed last Aug. the shop connected it directly to my parking lights. i noticed the plastic lens a bit deformed 2 weeks ago after i went on a long trip (~2 hr drive). i guess the heat was too much. my problem is i have no way to turn it off because they did not put a switch for it. i'm afraid it might melt completely next time i go on a long drive since this happended besides the fact that it's very cold here in NY already. i just want to get you guys opinion about my options coz i don't know what to do. here are the options i can think of:

1. buy new set of original fogs and have it connected at the dealership (none of the shops around here wants to install the stalk switch that comes with the original kit, they said they can't do it) but this will be expensive ~$600

2. disconnect the wires from the park light so it does not come on anymore but leave the fogs in place so it will not look bad with 2 holes on the bumper. this will be the cheapest option

3. have a mechanic install a separeate switch maybe under the dash or somewhere so i can turn it on/off. this will be cheap too i think but i'm afraid it may look bad and turn buyers off if i sell it someday

4. buy grillcraft grills ~$140 for the lower end but i want to install only the ones for the fog light vents

which 1 do you think will be the best? the less expensive the better but i don't want to sacrifice the look/quality of teh car. are there other options i'm missing?

Buy some 5/16" Lexan, take your fog lights out, remove your old lenses and then trace the shape of your fogs onto the lexan and cut out some new, more heat resistant lenses. Put them in your fogs and make sure you seal them up with a silicon caulk, then you should be good to go.

i've seen a guide for the lexan. but my problem is that i don't have the tools needed to remove the bumper and to cut the plastic. actually i don't know much about the tools/hardware stuff. i'm also afraid i may not have the skills to do it right.

ebay 40 bucks.....this will be my fourth set since they either crack(from rocks and debris) or melt like my last set

I would get the stalk switch that you need for your lights and do it right.

the shop that i went to and the other ones around here said they cannot do the stalk switch installation. they said the can put in a generic switch. i'm afraid it may mess up the interior or make it look cheap and lower its resale value in the future. what do you think?

I got pulled over yesterday after I left work cause my yellow fogs are apparently illegal now. So I'm buying clear fogs and putting 6 k hids in them

Daddy
Get HID's they run cooler, less chance of melting.
