The shifter cable and base bushings should not rattle. The base bushings replace the rubber bushings the shift assembly is mounted on creating a more solid mounting point resulting in less flex in the shift assembly itself. The cable bushings replace the rubber bushings on the shifter cables at the transmission end, resulting in a more solid and direct shift feel as well. If you push on your shifter when in gear for example, you will feel it flex quite a bit. The cable bushings remove a great deal of this flex for a sportier shift feel.

Whether you feel this is more comfortable or not is personal preference. It is a sportier feel for sure. If you're looking to simply reduce the shifter throw then the base and cable bushings may not be required. if you want to shorten the throw as well as make the shifting feel more like a race car, then the short shifter and shifter base and cable bushings would be a good option. The bushings are not absolutely required if you're just looking to shorten the shifter throw.

I hope this helps

Kevin

I agree 100% wit Poop....besides exhaust, you feel the difference driving the car every time. I installed my Mugen Q/S and Comptech base/cable bushings last wed...Definately worth it, it feels like the Pro 5.0 speed shifter I had in my mustang. No rattles and feels great, nice firm positive shifts.
