you don't have a bmw so don't do it. depending on the color of your car you could just get this ANTENNA ASSY., XM *NH701M* - $28.34

Since this question is out there, where are our antennas? Is it the back window? And what happens if the back window breaks?

not 100% sure but i think it is in the back window at the top (if your looking at the back) right corner. i think if you get xm then thats when you get the antenna on the top of the roof. but i know it's the back window just not 100% sure where. and if it breaks i'm pretty sure they they either replace the antenna or take it off and out it back on the new window.

the regular radio antenna in in the back window. you can trace the wire that are in the window to another wire that leads to the head unit. it is the wire embedded that are not connected to the heatwires.

FYI:

the rooftop mounted antennas (above rear glass) are for units with navigation. this is the combo GPS/XM antenna.

the XM addon for non-navigation goes inside the car, at the top of the passenger side windshield glass.

thanks for clearing it up i always thought it was the xm cause i knew the gps antenna was under the dash near the cluster.

When I was in Vancouver back in November, it seemed like every car on the road had one of these.
