ixizHood Installed.

My buddy has the ixizHood for his WRX and I'd always wanted to pick one up. The owner/designer/creator of ixizConcepts was an active member of the WRX forum I belonged to and he was always coming up with some cool ideas. I was very happy to find out that he'd come up with an ixizHood for the 8th gen and ordered it right away.

There's a review/DIY thread already so I won't rehash things, but Ming really takes pride in his products, and it shows down to the packaging. This is a 3 piece kit, a hood bracket, a long bracket that attaches to the radiator support, and a strut.

The setup doesn't weigh very much at all... both brackets are machined aluminum, and the strut is not very heavy at all... all high quality stuff. I'd guess that this doesn't weigh much more than the hood prop does.

Some Detail Pics:

The action is very smooth on this thing, and it's balanced just right so that once you get the hood about half way up... it starts going the rest of the way up, when you bring it down it dampens itself nicely and has just enough momentum to firmly close the hood without that slam that makes you wince... like closing the door on a well built luxury car.

Very happy with the setup... and it's a pleasure not fumbling with that hood prop any more.

Hood damper for all 8thgen!!!!!!

Yup. You can purchase them from a sponsor on this site.
Nice install, the socket you used was a little big... you can see the 'wear' on the corners of the bolts... (grins)

On the hood bolts???

Actually that was a 10mm socket I used...

The paint on the bolts was rather thick... so I actually did that getting the socket on. I've actually gotten that from every bolt with paint on it... makes me cringe when I hear the cracking noise it makes.

First car that I've ever had this issue with... anything painted bolt wise on my WRX didn't do this... of course, most of those bolts weren't painted either.

Looks good. Glad someone else finally backed me up on this great product. You installed yours a little differently than I did though. The top of your damper is installed on the opposite side of the hood bracket. But I think I might try that when I get back from this hurricane crap.

When I did the install, that was the orientation of the damper and so I went with the path of least resistance... I was also doing a foglight install so I got lazy. It works well in this position, and my wife wants one for her EX now.

Your DIY was great... I did refer to it... but totally missed the orientation of the strut.

yeah i beleive its supposed to be the other way. but i dont think its that big of a deal.

i want one, but i also dont like how it goes by the battery..its hard enough to get to the headlights as it is, guess you have to go through the wheel well if you have this

Let me ask you this...

When you close your hood, is it still flush with the fender? My hood is about 3mm off, but just on the side with the damper. That's why I'm going to try your way whenever I get a chance. Then again, it could just be because my hood is a Seibon and the fiberglass tends to flex a little bit...

The hoodprop side is maybe a mm higher than the non-hoodprop side... I wouldn't have noticed it until you mentioned something... could have something to do with the fact that there's a little bit of pressure on it from the strut, but it's definitely not something that I would've noticed unless I looked for it.

I'd expect there's a little bit of "give" in the Honda hinge and since you have the regular hood strut with an aftermarket hood with a bit more "give" that it's a little more exaggerated.

Like I said, I wouldn't have noticed anything until you said something.
