Review/DIY for ixizconcept's ixizHood damper!!!!
I decided to try ixizconcept's new hood damper out. I was sold when I found out you don't have to drill in your hood. Carbon fiber ain't cheap!
Canadian buyers can check out BattleEndless to purchase this damper. All of us in the states have to purchase from ixizconcept directly. Here's a link to the site: IxizConcept HONDA Click on the ixizHood Civic tab to order. BE SURE TO SPECIFY WHETHER YOU HAVE A REGULAR OR CARBON FIBER HOOD WHEN ORDERING. THE HOOD DAMPER IS ADJUSTED ACCORDINGLY!!! Anyways, on with the show! ![]() Please excuse my dirty engine bay and crappy picture taking skills..... USPS Priority package: ![]() Contents were packages very well: ![]() Prop your hood (this will obviously help keep the hood up during the install) ![]() Tools needed are 10mm wrench and 10mm ratchet ![]() The two included brackets: ![]() Notice the longer bracket has double-sided tape to help secure it after installation: ![]() The ixizHood damper: ![]() This bolt (near the battery) will need to come off for the long bracket installation: ![]() Long bracket installed (remember to use the double-sided tape); the bracket is shaped to the curvature of the frame it's bolted to: ![]() Remove hood bolts and attach small bracket; please note that the damper hole needs to be on the engine bay side: ![]() Remove nut and washer on both ends of the damper: ![]() Attach damper to the long bracket (I recommend this end first since it's the harder of the two): ![]() Attach damper to the small bracket (please note that your hood will be propped open slightly more with your new ixizHood damper then it was with the OEM hood prop): ![]() Finished product!!! ![]() Overall, I am quite happy with ixizconcept's product. It sure beats other alternatives that require you to drill into your hood. I'd give installation a 2/10 with 10 being the most difficult. The only problem I can see someone having is when you have to remove the hood bolts. This could potentially cause an issue with hood alignment, but it's easily fixable. Thanks ixizconcept for a great product. If you guys have any questions, ask away! edit: updated pic w/o OEM hood prop.

That's a good question. I was looking at that earlier, and I think a damper on the passenger side would hit the washer fluid reservoir when you close the hood. I don't think you'd be able to, but it's really not needed. One damper is definitely strong enough to hold up the hood.

Oh, and I was able to get the old hood prop out today. Just gotta wiggle it around a bit and it'll eventually come out.
I also found out today that ixizconcept accidentally sent me the damper for the OEM hood instead of one for the carbon fiber hood. Ming @ ixiz told me that he'd be happy to switch them for me, and that he developed the carbon fiber hood damper with the idea that the carbon hoods were much lighter. Just keep that in mind when ordering (I'm gonna update my original post with this info). Last edited by tehcodeman; 09-14-2008 at 12:54 AM. |

I've had some experience with his WRX products... was actually going to help him develop rear caliper adaptor brackets for upgrading to the 2006 WRX 2 pot rears but wound up having to back out of the project.
He makes a good product and is active on a number of the WRX boards. If there are other products that you're interested in... I'm sure that he'd be willing to take a shot at them if he thinks that there's a market for them. |

I actually just sold the WRX wagon last week... I have an FG2 Civic Si Coupe now. CoolRex popped his hood on the WRX last week and I was actually commenting on his hood props and wishing they were available for the Civic. Such irony.
