Do i Have The Right?
hey there i was cleaning the car the other day and i noticed that my front HFP lip is rubbing the body of the car and taking the paint away. the local dealer contracts there body work out to maaco. i've heard too many night mare stories about them, so i don't want them touching the car. do i have the right to choose another company to do it for me? theres a honda collision center close to me but another dealership owns it and said they wont cover it. what can i do?

what they're saying is true. If it was installed before delivery, the 3/36 warranty applies. If it was installed after (but you took it to a honda dealership) you get a 1/12 (that's yr/month) warranty. I got mine after the purchase so it's only under warranty for 1/12... either way, I'd still like to see pics of where it is rubbing paint off of your car...
P.S. The dealership I got mine from did the install themselves. |

i had the kit installed before delivery. the front kit isn't snug against the body so it rubs the bumper. i had the service manager look at it today and he said that dent wizard has a blending process they do to fix that stuff. anyone know if thats a good way to go or should i insist on getting the bumper painted?

Personally, I'd rather let them spot fix the one spot than re-paint the whole bumper (could come back to bite you on a trade-in)
It seems to be a bit noticable, especially on a white car, but I wonder why it isn't snug and why it is able to move around like that... I'll check mine today, but for some reason, I keep thinking that should be snug with double-sided tape... |

![]() Seriously though... I've heard it's not rocket science. Even the po-dunk dealership I took mine to for installation said they had done several of them and felt comfortable doing it. So far, so good minus the front of the sideskirt coming un-peeled a bit. Nothing a new little piece of double-sided tape couldn't take care of real quick. Good luck man. Don't stand for that crap. If you really want the front bumper re-sprayed, get it re-sprayed. Also, go get a 2nd opinion from a dealership on the install of the HFP kit. |

yeah but i'm in canada and for a strange reason your guys prices are pretty much half the price we pay. i was looking into getting the hfp suspension and they priced it would be $1100 + install and thats with a 15% discount. on college hills honda it's only like $600.

What would taxes/dutities be to have it shipped from the good 'ol USA? If you lived closer to the border, I bet you could come get the parts here then have them installed up there... Wonder why your guys' stuff is still twice as expensive though the CAD has surpassed the USD... Either way, good luck man. Don't take crap from the dealerships and DONT let them outsource the "fix" of your HFP kit. If they can't do it, go to a different dealership |

This is a true story.
My dads friend gave him an older Chevrolet Corsica which was supposed to be my brothers first car when he turned 16. My brother is now 21 so it's some time ago. Anyways, we had it painted at Maaco thinking it's cheaper so we'll do it. What we got was nothing we expected. Maaco calls us and told us as they were pulling the car out of the shop, the brakes had failed. They hit a wall with it. So my dad is in disbelief and he goes to check it out. My dad is shocked. The brakes should still work! So he gets the local Police Department to come with him [he is a police officer himself]. They check it out and determine with him that they had to of 'joy rided' it or something because the front end was smashed in and it was so bad the back seat was bent in a V-Shape. Yikes! And the wall they hit was cut perfectly with a jig saw. In the end, Maaco had to pay. And a couple of years later, Maaco opens a collision center. Hm... LMFAO. Wow. AND btw, Maaco is only that bad when, you buy the cheapest paint job. If you buy the ACTUAL good paint jobs that other places charges theres no difference and in some ways Maaco is better because they can get the actual factory colors. My point is if you take it to a mom and pop shop they cannot 100% match something like Nighthawk black. They can come real close, but they cannot get it to a T. I used Maaco on my 88 Monte SS and it came out looking like pure tits

Just my opinion tho. I fixed rust spots on my first prelude that was red and the match was not horrible but you could tell that it was different |

I'm just using NBP as an example. Maaco has contracual agreements with car companies to provide them the right colors. Most of the horror stories are from people who roll in, say, "Gimme the $199.99 special" and expect some great work. My monte cost 2300 to paint from Maaco. Hardly the "deal" everyone claims. They sanded it down entirely , fixed all rust and dents, primered, several layers of alpine white and several clear coats. I recieved quotes from other places as well some large and some big. Bear in mind when you deal with big business all it takes is alot of well placed calls to the corporate office to get what you want. As far as other dealerships being able to blend where you can't see a difference, wait till twilight or just the right amount of sun and it'll look cheap and tacky.
