How far do you drive with painters tape?
My question is how far of a drive would you put painters tape on your car?
I have not used painters tape on my car before and I know it is a pain to do. It is very time consuming to put it on your car. I am going to be driving 2-3 hours out in a desert area. Is it worth putting painters tape on? |

in a desert area.. i'd say yes.. if you have winds and sand blowing throughout the air you run the risk of getting many small sand knicks
it's better to be safe than sorry.. anything 4+ hours i would do as well |

Its a car, drive it and enjoy it! I mean I have learned that from all the cars I owned. I babied the hell out of them and etc.....wont make that much of a difference on trade in price or private seller. I dunno thats just my opinion!

I wouldn't do it myself. There are no negatives to it that I know of or anything, but I just wouldn't take the time. What are you going to prevent little rocks and dust that will inevitably hit your car over time even on a smooth cali road or something? I drive this car every day and trust me every little chip is like a shot in the heart to me too, but I wouldn't bother with this because no DD is going to be 100% flawless. I just do my best to take care of her the way she is.

haha wow there's some ignorance in here.
why? because it's cost effective and it's proven to work. Some people would rather take their time because it's worth not spending money on a new paintjob or something. Others would rather spend more money buying a shield. And yes, you are trying to prevent a rock chip, regardless if you get it on a smooth road or not. |

Okay, I want to do this cause I want to "rice out" a freinds car with the tape. A prank that i want to be harmless. You know put stripes and tapes on the rims, etc. I dont want to damage his paint, his car is always clean btw!

I do this every time I make the 5 hour trip to Dallas (about once a month). Doesn't take but 20 mins or so once you get the hang of it. It's never damaged my paint and it stays on their even through rain. No residue left behind or anything. I'm pretty sure it strips the wax, but that's an easy fix.
To the person who says it looks horrible, it's not meant to look good. However, after driving a NHBP Si for 30,000 miles, I can say that my front bumper looks better than most 8thgens with just as many miles. I've put too much blood/sweat/tears/money in this car to treat it like a daily driven beater.
