Ohio '06 Si joins APR splitter club

Liked the look of the other 8thcivic.com members sporting APR splitters. Decided to take the plunge and join the club. I made the install harder than it needed to be but I'm a perfectionist in most things and wanted this mounted as securely as possible. While I had the bumper off, I did the fog light opening to vent/grill mod that someone posted on the DIY forum some time ago. I painted mine post bondo application however. Just masked around the entire black area and painted with black plasticoat paint.

I like the look of the splitter on GG. I'm sure some will disagree. Next spring I'm going to purchase the HFP suspension package and install myself. I figured some might suggest lowering my car a bit. I hear ya and am getting there.

For those interested in getting the APR splitter themselves, PM me and I can explain how I attacked the project.

splitter looks good, i dont know what it is about these civic, but with the HFP, and any type of splitter makes our cars look mean as hell.

Thanks for the comments. My work hasn't seemed to inspire many other responses however. C'est la vie.

Splitter 'splits' incoming air to create a lower pressure faster moving air mass beneath the splitter and higher pressure slower moving air mass above the splitter. This, in effect, is added downforce. The larger the exposed splitter area, the greater the downforce. Theoretically giving better traction into and through turns. Will decrease overall top speed but that isn't too big an issue considering we don't have Autobahns here. Higher pressure air above the splitter also moves more air into the radiation and vent openings on the front facia.

Thought above moving the support rods further apart but it actually required the most support in that area. Plus the front plate bracket attachment points just happened to be conveniently located right there. It was a fairly tough install as the instructions are 1. remove bumper 2. mount splitter 3. replace bumper. Not much to go on. Others have attached the splitter with bumper in place. I figured out a way to access all bumper attachment points AND secure the splitter with 8 mm bolts to the bumper assembly as well as throw in some metal screws into a cross member. It's not going anywhere. Having to remove the bumper again in the future will be challenging however.

I'm not a fan of splitters on street cars, then again it's not my car
The install is clean so my personal opinions aside, looks good.

I appreciate the comments. I realize it's more show than go but I've noticed the few on and off ramps I've hit since installing, the car seems to knuckle down into the turns a bit better. Would like to take it to a track to be positive but doubt that will happen in the near future.

I sort of liked the mechanical look of the APR splitter when some of the other members posted their photos. Spent 20 years in the Air Force and the aerodynamics interest me as well. I will not be purchasing one of the adjustable racing rear deck wings from APR however. THAT is too over the top. I can say the splitter is actually functional but big rear wing would not be at any time for the speeds we drive on public roads.

And I apologize and would be remiss if I did not give full credit to the fog light opening mod to GeezerSI.

Winglets as on lower part of the splitter or some type of canard? Someone on 8thcivic has canards but they just are not suited for the front end of the Civic at all somehow.

nice... as for a splitter on a street car... as is the case with most mods, it is done because it looks good first... and maybe helps a little second

Hmm..not bad ... However, I think it would look even better with black brake calipers.

I couldn't afford braces for my kid's teeth but why not the car?

I agree that it would probably look cleaner without the rods but that is a large area to catch air and I guarantee that it would flex downward without the support rods. I could tell that before I attached rods by pressing down in the middle. It wasn't cheap and I don't want to find out that it's cracking from flexing too much.
