1st mod (tint)

Just picked up on 08 EX sedan from the tint shop.

I went with Advanced Tinting Solutions here in Cedar Rapids, IA. They use LLumar products.

I went with 50% on the driver & front passenger windows and 30% on the rear doors and back window.

Some quick pics from my cell phone (not the best quality pics):

Why did you go so high on the front, is that the law in your state? Llumar is a great brand. Good work

Yeah, law says that 70% is the max legal on the fronts.

Guess time will tell if I get stopped or not. It was only $40 more to get the fronts done with the package so I decided to go ahead and do the 50% even tho it isn't much tint.

50% is actually quite a change from the untinted windows. So far I like it!

$219 plus tax.

Comes with "lifetime warranty". Not sure who or what's lifetime.

But that 50% film would meter at 42%. Plus, stop anywhere from 20% to 55% of heat. Not to mention LLumar's 99.9% UV rejection for less fading of his interior (and less risk of skin cancer).

Not to mention, not everyone in the world is so unattractive they have to tint the windows so dark no one can see them.

I'm curious as to why he didn't go darker on the rears? Afraid to back into stuff? When I lived in Waterloo, all I installed was 5%. I think twice I installed 35% on a car.

There was much consternation about how dark to go on the back of the car.
  • how big a difference did I want between the front and rear glass
  • how dark is too dark for backing up (minor concern)
  • how dark is too dark for my own personal taste (I don't mind being able to see in a little bit)
  • how dark can I go without the war department having an opinion

I had narrowed it down to 20%, 30%, or 35% and after looking at the Audi in the parking lot with 30% I decided that was about right. The photo book at the shop had several 30%/no tint and 15%/50% jobs and I disliked the extreme contrast more than I disliked being able to see into the back seats a bit.

I can see that a bit darker would have been possible. *shrug*

My car is pretty vanilla (hell! totally stock!) and is likely to stay that way for a while. Maybe if it gets a body kit someday I'll have to go in again and have it darker so I can keep up with the cool kids.

I can understand that. Once in a great while I'll tint a car from WI and even though their law is 50% up front and 35% out back they'll go with 50% all around so it's even.
