Is there a stock % of tint on the EX-L sedan?
Anyone know what it is? I want to get more but I don't want to go over the legal limit, total. The windows look like they are slightly tinted to me. Any idea if I can find the info about this on the honda web site?
In my state it is: Windshield -Must allow more than 70% of light in. Front Side Windows-Must allow more than 50% of light in. Back Side Windows-Any darkness can be used. Rear Window-Any darkness can be used. |

Almost all automotive glass today is in the 70% (federally mandated) and 80% range. The highest I've seen recently was 88%. Some cars from the early 90s have clear glass which is 94%.
The average is 75%. To get a truly legal install in ND you'll need to have a 65% ~ 70% film installed on the fronts. If you install a 50% film most of the time it comes out to 42%. Fear not, plenty of good high heat rejecting films out there that will be legal legal when installed. If you get a 50% film and it comes out 42%, the cop would have to be a HUGE jerk to pull you over. But I've seen it happen before. That's what I like about Geoshield Ceramic, it stops 53% of heat and usually meters about 45% to 47% on the glass (47% is our legal limit in MN). Or you can use something like Geoshield IRis 70%, stop 54% of heat, meter legal, and no worries. (most "limo" 5% films only stop 40% to 60% of heat) Last edited by darkdan; 07-04-2008 at 11:23 AM. |

Keep in mind, your 15% may not be 15%. Batch to batch variations in both glass and film (most major film manufacturers adhere to a 3% variance, but some cheaper companies will let anything slide) can make predicting overall VLT of the glass and film combination hard to predict.
Also, some companies will call something 15%, when really it's 20%. Some call it 20% and really isn't 26%! Some call something 35% and really it's 30%. There really isn't a set naming system out there, so you have to go by the published specs (separate from the film name) and hope that companies quality control follows the industry standard of 3% variance. Let's not forget that not all meters work properly too! Low batteries can cause bad readings. If they haven't calibrated it recently. A thin layer of dust on the window can lower the reading by 2% to 4%. |
