? About Hard Wire On a Sirius Reciever
I was wondering if it would be possible to hard wire a sirius reciever into the fuse box. Which fuse would I have to tap into and what would I need to do to perform this task...thanks in advance for any help that can be offered.

You will need to find a switched 12v source, so something that's on only when the key is in position 1 or 2. The cigarette lighter wires are a good source for this.
If the radio's cigarette lighter adapter dosen't output 12v then you will have to keep it, so you will have to wire the 2 connectors on the side fo the cig adapter to ground, and the tip to power then tape it all up so it can't short out or come undone. Or you can find a cigarette ligher adapter with wires coming off the end, which is harder to find but does the same job as just sticking wires on the sirius adapter. |

What part are you lost with? Basically all you have to do is make the plastic thing you plug into your cigarette lighter get power without being in a cigarette lighter.
When I did that to my XM in another car I used an adapter like this but it was only the female socket with the wires hanging off of it, so all I had to do was wire those in and plug in the XM adapter. If you are looking for specific wires to get power from I won't really be able to help you there since I don't have my Si anymore, but most people tap into the power for the existing cigarette ligher socket since I will assume it's easier. |

Yeah I am a dumbass with this kind of shit. I really have no clue what I am doing...I just killed a couple fuses. Before I started the thread I cut the Sirius Power cable and split the wire in half(pos and neg). I pulled the aux power outlet out and was going to splice into the positive wire to whichever wire it is and attach the neg wire to the other wire that goes into the aux power outlet.

probrably not.
It's unlikely that the Sirius unit itself uses 12v, which is what your car is. My XM unit only uses like 5, that adapter you plug into your cigarette lighter usually steps down the voltage, but in some cases it dosen't. First step is to test your Sirius to make sure it didn't die. Re connect the wires you cut and plug the adapter in like it should, if it does not work then you fried it trying to hook it up directly. If it still works then cool, keep the wires connected and tape them up with electrical tape. Look at what I had described above with that adapter cable with the socket at the end. Something like that (but without the male end) will let you use the adapter and hard wire it, OR you can do it yourself by wiring in the prongs on the cigarette lighter end of the adapter. The ones on the side are - and the one on the tip is +. You can wrap a wire around one of the connectors on the side and wrap tape around it, and then stuff a wire into the tip after unscrewing it and then tape that up too. That will let you power the cig ligher adapter without being in a cig lighter socket. Last edited by volvo9; 05-15-2008 at 05:30 PM. |

You could also find one with just the female end (my old XM came with one), but I haven't seen one in stores. You could probrably find something to modify at wal mart or something. But like I said above, you really don't even need that piece. You can make it work with just wires and electrical tape. Dosen't look as professional, but works the same and no one will see it. |

![]() The battery represents power, which you could easily get from any of the cig lighters in the car (just keep in mind the center of the ligher socket is + and the outside or cylinder part is -) The black thing is the actual adapter part that comes with the radio, all you have to do is connect the corresponding terminals to their respective power source. So the side connectors of the adapter go to ground, and the tip is positive. |

Yeah, those fuses suck. I installed my radio without disconnecting my battery and once I connected the SH*TTY eBay $4 XM adapter that damn backup fuse blew, I double checked my wiring and it blew again so I threw the box away, bought the real Pioneer piece and everything was fine. I freaked out at the time though because my car was only 2 weeks old.

I drove to a couple auto part stores and they looked at the fuse and laughed because it was so small, they never saw the miny fuses before. Pretty messed up that no retail stores have them and you have to go to Honda for them. I got to drive like 40 minutes to 1 of 3 possible dealers, BLOWS!
