Simple magic solution?? PAC AOEM-HON17 ???

I'm researching but finding little.. This little guy might be the ticket...

From all I'm seeing, the civic premium oem head unit sends balanced outs to the outboard oem amp... If normal RCA outs can be generated from those Diff Balanced outs, a guy could use any amp diff inputs or not.. such as a KAC-X4R kenwood amp with all the DSP crossover, eq, time-alignment etc a guy could want for tuning.

http://www.pac-audio.com/instructions/OEM-1.pdf

I shot an email to PAC directly asking about it. Hopefully we might have a cute little product to make simple amp upgrades with tunability to factory head unit easy... and inexpensive.

We'll see..
I posed the question to their tech support specifically mentioning the Honda's oem head unit inputs and the resulting outputs from the PAC unit.

Two of those DSP digital kenwood amps would drive two-way active frontstage, rear fill and sub, ALL completely tuneable w/ active crossovers, para-eq and individual time alignment adjustments... Just add better speaker drivers and then pull your hair out tuning forever. :) Or bribe a friend I work with on Buwalda's team to help with an RTA. hehehe

I have a Harness and active interface converter for the premium system that lets you connect any aftermarket amp. If you have an amp with balanced inputs you can skip the converter and plug the harness right in. The active converter is flat with very low distortion numbers. The harness attaches to the factory harness and also provides the remote wire and line outs.

I have been doing these for over a year mostly for the TSX but the Premium Civic system uses the same set up. A bunch of Civic guy’s are already using my harness and converter with the premium system.

I'm using it with my JL 500/5 and it's great. I just like having the option of using unbalanced amps in the future too.

"it" meaning the PAC AOEM unit or Mercman's (Jeff's) kit?

Mercman's harness. Sorry for not being clear. I don't need the PAC since my JL has balanced inputs.

Amp and speaker upgrade for FA5

Hi, I would like to upgrade my component speakers powered by an aftermarket amp and hopefully put them in the stock positions. I want to keep the stock head unit. I've heard from the forums that the stock HU doesn't need any sound modulation, but would require a harness to connect to a compatible amplifier. Where can I get a stock HU to aftermarket amp wiring harness? I'm thinking of a single 5 channel amp to power everything. Now I guess I'll need a harness to connect the stock hu to the amp. Where do you guys think I should mount the amp? And what components should I get that can easily fit into the stock housings? Thanks guys.

John

^^^^^^

I would say get a JL Audio Clean Sweep or a Rockford 3 Sixty. I am running a Kenwood KAC-X4R with "shielded" RCA's, and using 2 line level converters and I am still getting a lot of noise when I go into "re gen" mode. I am getting a new head unit and I know this will get rid of all the noise. If you want to keep the stock head unit, go with one of the two processors listed above.

Mercman where can I purchase the wiring harness to connect the stock HU to an aftermarket amp? I'm planning to connect it to a rockford fosgate amp, which I believe accepts balanced diff inputs

Do you have the premium or standard sound system HU?

With the premium system there is no need for sound processors or noise eliminators. Noise with the factory system integration can be avoided by using the proper connection techniques.

I know of a guy in another forum that used mercman's harness and connected it to a blanced input Audiocontrol four.1 EQ, the Audiocontrol eq's have differential inputs and outputs which are switchable to unbalanced depending on your amp, by using one of these you can use any amp whether it accepts balanced or unbalanced inputs

I have a Hybrid.

Mercmans quote "Do you have the premium or standard sound system HU?"

No, I have the basic radio.

Like I said though, once I get the new head unit, all of my issues will be gone.

I have his harness but I haven't installed my system yet, I still need to get my front components and another amp. I'll probably take pics of the install and post them up.
