The active interface electronically converts the balanced audio signal to unbalanced line level for connection to aftermarket amps that don’t have balanced inputs. It is designed to match the HU output closely for max sound quality although it is a much better input circuit then the factory amp uses. When using amps with balanced audio inputs you can connect the harness directly since there is no need to convert.

If I may answer and hopefully get it right... It's a quick and easy plug-in to the harness from the head unit that feeds the OEM amp front/rear, left/right.

At the other end are those four line-outs terminated as RCA's to feed out to any gear that accepts differential-balanced signals, be it processor(s) or amp(s) such as JL's, Rockfords or from what I read, PDX's.... bypassing the stock amp altogether.

May also (but not positive) have a turn-on lead from the oem head unit ??? that instead of going to the stock amp, can remotely "on" aftermarket amps or processors... Not positive on that.

Then from aftermarket amps, the speaker lines can either go straight back into the post oem amp harness via a scosche amp-bypass from crutchfield, such as if just running with oem speakers with minimal work, or if you run your own upgraded speaker wiring to go to comps, or other speaks, etc.

... right? :)
