im curious to hear this.....single 12 and 2 8's

was talking to a guy about his old system....he used to compete and said he won a few competions...he said he had an explorer with 2 10's one on each side of the trunk and a 15 in the center.....he said that it souded really good having the low bass with the 15 and the 10's for the more tighter bass.....makes sense but i've never heard of it or anything....is that overboard??? or maybe a good set of componenets and a single 12...anyways

it would only work if it was crossed over so the 12 would play from 50 and down and the 8's would play from 150-50ish. You'd need a fairly advanced crossover network. Way more work than needed. I would rather just do a sub setup properly tuned and setup correctly than deal with attempting something like this.

x2.

Just go with 8's up front and a 12 in the back if you're going to do all that crap.

IMO what you stated in your post is one of the most ridiculous setups I've ever heard of. My $.02

I have 2 10's and 2 12's and it sounds amazing in the highs and lows.

I'd be interested in pictures of that. I think that is overkill in our cars. I have two 12"s and my gains are turned about 1/3 of the way up.

To be blunt, it's flat out stupid.

I can't imagine the cancellation that would go on. Hopefully if someone's doing this they actually have a clue what they're doing instead of just throwing subs in a box.

This was very popular back in the early and mid 90's. Then people started researching sound and realized it's retarded and pointless. So say it sounds good in the highs and lows just shows A: you don't know what to listen for and B: you don't know what to listen for. haha
