XM Radio hack?
Hi, I don't know too much about cars, but I have an 07 civic ex coupe. I heard recently that you can get XM radio for life for free. According to this guy, XM sends out the cancellation signal for only about 3 weeks, and then they stop sending the signal (something about not being able to continuously do it). So this guy says you can subscribe to XM for like a month, and before you cancel it, unhook your XM radio, let the subscription run out and wait a month, then reconnect the XM radio. Supposedly after this, your radio will think that you're still a paying customer. Is this a myth or can you actually do this? And if so, how would one go about disconnecting the XM radio? Thanks!

my friend use to do that with satellite tv, he would buy a illegal chip with all the channels in it, and every so often the satellite company would try to fry his chip so they would send signals and he knew when they were sending them cause the tv would get all fuzzy so he would disconnect the receiver for a few days then hook it back up and continue doing that. i wonder if it works with xm as well.

Being as I've been a paying customer for almost two years now and deployed part way through my second prepay subscription, I can say that I highly doubt this. When I returned to the states in June 07 and attempted to use my XM again, I was surprised to find out, that I did not have the service. More than 3 weeks had passed.
I applaud you for your efforts should you have the patience to try this. |

Not true.
Not sure how their system works but disconnecing your radio dosen't matter. I've been a subscriber for years and I've cancelled radio's that where unplugged. They didn't work when I plugged them in later on. They also send out the cancellation signal immediately, within 5 minutes of swapping radios i've had the service turned off, sometimes it's taken an hour or two. Also working at acura the cars came with a 3 month subscription. The Tech's would activate it during PDI and if the car sat around for more than 3 months then when you'd turn the car on (dead battery or not) to an inactive XM subscription. |

Because you can't get it for free. XM and Sirius are merging either way and being a subscriber to both for the past three years I can tell you this isn't true. It will continue to be active sometimes as they will run your account into the negative range where you OWE them money.. I have seen people continue to get it from company error but you can't plan ahead and take actions to ensure that it will work. Then you will just end up paying a reactivation fee plus the money you owed them from letting it run over. Good luck!
And by the way, if you got it for free it wouldn't be legal. :sigh: Last edited by SpareNoExpenses; 05-08-2008 at 04:45 PM. |
