elastomeric rubberized roof coating

hey guys i was at canadian tire today and saw this product called koolseal, its supposed to be an elastomeric roof coating that is rubberized. im wondering if this could be used the same way that paint on stuff from elemental designs is used. or is this an asphalt product that will smell. it it could work i was wondering about using it in the trunk wheel well. i tell ya its not cheap though but cheaper than the other stuff.
