Sirius, can you use stock antenna?
Hello,
I've just purchased a TW '08 Si w/ nav, and would like some info on getting Sirius up and running use as much stock equipment as possible. I know Crutchfield sells an adapter to switch from XM to Sirius, but from what I hear, you need to run an additional Sirius antenna. Is it possible to setup Sirius using the stock antenna? Also, when I call Sirius to switch my radio from my current standalone to the Civic, what serial do I need to give them? Thanks for any help. |

I have heard that XM and Sirius antennas are the same, just the end is different. You should be able to connect them with an adapter cable, not sure if Crutchfield sells it though, may have to look elsewhere but it does exist.
When you call Sirius it's probrably the same as when I call XM, you will need the radio code for your new radio, and maybe the one from your old radio, but probrably not. With XM you put the radio on channel 0 to get that code, Sirius is probrably similar. |

Thanks. I've actually found a site that sells everything I need to use the stock equiptment, however I have no idea where the XM tuner is located.
Does anyone know if there is a DIY guide somewhere on switching the XM tuner to Sirius? I'd like to get an idea of how difficult it will be. I tried search but couldn't find anything. Thanks. |

here is a useful PDF that shows you the install steps the dealers take to install the xm on a 08 civic sedan or coupe
Good luck does anyone have a sirius honsc1 translater installed with a sirius scc1 tuner on a 08 civic coupe, if so what antenna are you using? how is it for reception? http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/AI/AII37661.pdf Quote:

I have it in my '08 Si 4 door. I'm using the antenna that came with it. I got the thing in a package, which included the Sirius scc1 tuner, the honsc1, and a Sirius antenna. The thing is pretty much plug and play. The 2 units are small (combined, it's smaller than the OEM XM box). Everything you need to get to is on the right side of the trunk, behind where the right 1/4 panel is. Just unclip/unscrew the little clips and stuff to pull the right trunk side linter piece towads the spare tire, and you'll see the OEM harness and XM box. You just unplug the XM box and plug the Sirius unit in. It gets power and everything through the OEM harness. I ran the antenna to the stock subwoofer, and it sits by the glass, inside the car, in the middle, on the rear deck shelf. Start to finish, took me about 20 mins. Reception is great. Even with the antenna inside the car, it's better than the OEM XM's reception. Doesn't cut out as much. I didn't buy/use that XM > Sirius adapter for the antenna, because 1.) it's pricey, and 2.) reception on it is not that good. Cleaner install, but you lose reception., and money. You "can" compleelt pull out the OEM XM's antenna and put the Sirius antenna under the colored cap on the roof, but from what I hear, the hole that actually goes through your roof is real big, and may have sealing problems. Don't quote me on this, it's what I heard. Wasn't about to find out myself for sure. Hope that helps. If you have questions, feel free to post of PM. Last edited by 9900rpm; 06-07-2008 at 08:03 PM. |
