0 gauge through the firewall?

Anyone gotten 0 gauge through the firewall? Did it require you opening up the factory spot (above the gas pedal) any?

I had a hard time getting 4 gauge through and imagine 0 would require drilling.

I have 0 gauge running through mine. I had to bore a pretty good amount out with a dremel to get my streetwires bushing to fit. It is a pretty tight area to work on. I used a dremel with the flex attachment.

There is a bracket on the top-right side (looking in the engine compartment) of the hole that I had to bend some to run the wire smoothly. I had no problems hitting it while cutting, it just got in the way when I went to run the wire. KLM cable doesn't flex that well.

Unfortunately in my 06 SI that plug is in use by some kind of breather tube, so my only option was the hole above the pedal.

Well, I'm not sold on 0 gauge just yet. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to me to spend an extra $100 on the wire/terminals.

I've just got plans in the next couple weeks to gut my car and lay down deadener, and thought I might as well upgrade the wire then, if I decide to do it. I may just re-dress my 4 gauge and call it a day.

Well 0 gauge was definately overkill for me. I am only running a 500/1 and 300/2. I figured if I am gonna run new cable I might as well go all out in case I want to upgrade in the future.

...

Are you running knukoncepts 4 guage wire bikini? Everyone says its really big for what it should be so that one might be a good compromise if you dont have it already, although for the money, it does sound like a lot.

I spent 200 on wire with shipping from them so I'm never upgrading that ever, ever again.

No, I have Stinger wire. I've had it for as long as I can remember.

I'm using 0 guage, I ran it though the firewall using the hole above the gas pedal.

I have two runs of 0/1 awg going to the trunk. One through the hole above the pedal and one through the fender coming in by the fuse box. Both required some dremelling for a grommet to fit. It was a huge pain in the ass. If I could do it again, I would have run conduit under the car and brought it up in the trunk floor.

Did you have to drill or was the hole big enough?

I have 0 awg going thru the hole in the fender, didn't have to drill out the hole or anything.

It was hard getting it to go thru a grommet. I had to trim the rubber grommet down considerably to make it fit.

I'm not sure my 06 Sedan has a hole in the fender area. Anyone verify?

You could verify by popping out a couple of the fasteners on the plastic wheel well on the driver's side. Be careful not to break them. I think if you push on the middle with a small screwdriver it will pop in, and then you can pull them out really easily.

Once you pop a couple of them out, pull down the plastic a little and shine a flashlight in.

Towards the back of the fender you should see a rubber plug, just push that through and you have a nice little hole for wire.

Well, I just ordered 0 gauge... figured why not. Got a steal of a deal on this kit:
Kicker PKD1 - 0/1 Gauge Dual Amp Power Kit • 20' 0/1 AWG Power Wire • 3 0/1 AWG Ground Wire • 20' 16 AWG Remote Wire • 300A ANL Fuse and Holder • 2 Distribution Blocks • 5' 4 AWG Power Wire • 5' 4 AWG Ground Wire - , Car Installation & Accessories, A

:)

Gotta order a firewall grommet and I'll be set. My build thread is about to get some serious attention. muuuahahahahahaha

damn that is pretty good...are you going to just add-on to your build in the diy forum?

I'm thinking of starting one there too, just to put out what the dnx 8120 and kenwood dsp amps can do when working together, still not completely sure of the processing and control capabilities of these two things together, so not sure if I should start the thread. They tend to get a little prickly with useless threads there...which is why I stick to here mostly when I post

Good choice, if I were going to go with 0 gauge, I'd use Kicker due to it's flexibility .

Yea, I'll continue my thread there.

I just got about 30sq ft of damplifier, LLP, and speaker pads sent out. The wiring should arrive while I'm on vacation. I'm hoping to have everything I need ready to go when I get back from vacation. I'll then have another week off work to get my install nailed out and then I will be D-U-N (for a while).
