I would think it is possible, with fairly minimal modification. Now I can't guarantee this will work, but I can't see why not.
Get one of these: Stereo Headphone 3.5mm Plug To Dual RCA Plugs Y Adapter Splitter Cable Then get a stereo harness and do Whiterice's amp integration harness: D.I.Y. the long-awaited amp integration harness by Whiterice! Only instead of connecting the RCA's to the speaker wires on the harness, connect the F+R wires on the harness to the L+R RCAs on the headphone jack->RCA connector. Or you could do Whiterice's tutorial exactly as is, and just buy a couple rca Y splitters with female ends. I can't see why that wouldn't work just fine (though i'm hardly a wiring guru or a car audio guru for that matter. I'm more of a nub ). You would also have to either connect your amp turn-on into the Remote wire or possibly into the 12V and use a switch if you'd prefer the amp only being on when you want it on. Either way, seems like alot of work for little gain. I'm assuming this is to save weight?

Silicon said exactly what I was about to.
Yes, that will be using the stock amp, then the ipod will control the volume and will be MUCH easier and the same exact thing as using an aftermarket amp. Just make the harness in the whiterice writeup and buy the splitters and adapters. Should cost less than $30 if you get the cables off the net. Also don't forget to connect the wire for the factory amp turn on, I took pictures of it here. VSS and factory amp turn on You can also wire up the stock aux input jack so that you can plug your ipod into the stock location for a clean look. I did that in my car. If you want to I can find pictures of the wires I spliced into to make it work. EDIT: I just looked at the picture I posted in my link above. The three wires I have seperated on my finger are the ones you need to make the factory aux in jack work. One is a common ground, I think it's the yellow one which corresponds to the tip of a headphone jack, and the others are left and right. I just don't remember which, but a multimeter will help you figure it out in a second. Plus the stock sub will still work. Last edited by volvo9; 05-03-2008 at 02:45 PM. |
