Why Monster cable sucks on so many levels

Just one more reason to hate this company.
Read this stuff:

Blue Jeans Cable Strikes Back - Response to Monster Cable — Audioholics Home Theater Reviews and News

To summarize, Monster sends cease and desist letter to small company, small company turns out to be owned by a retired Ivy League school litigation attorney who whoops monster's ass in the reply letter.

I saw that on digg and sent it to all my audio friends and the 2 lawyers I know. Everyone got a big kick out of it.

Mon$ter is the Micro$oft of the audio world.

LMAO...good shit!

I've been part of a family business since I was 5. The big company in the industry is sooo hard to compete with, but we gotta make due.

+rep for the little guy.

I've bought from BJC in the past. Excellent customer service.

I've been watching this story for a couple weeks now. Audioholics' has some great threads going on this.

wow. i hope this gets out to the general public, because people really need to stop buying monster only and stores really need to start carrying alternatives to monster.

monster is good, they are just overpriced. and the fact that CC, BB, and etc ONLY stock monster just makes it that much easier for them to charge extra.

Monster is just like Bose.

Everyone thinks they have amazing products, but once you step back, you realize all they have are overpriced, average quality products.

I can agree with you on Bose side of things. But Monster has great products. You get what you pay for. It's your money, buy what you want.

I don't like Bose but the Bose in my 300ZX was pretty damn good for (4) little 3.5" full range speakers.

monster is good quality on alot of their stuff, but its horredesly priced. a few years ago, you could get other brands in best buy. now its monster or lousy $2 cables.

the difference in Bose is that bose doesnt claim to be super duper good quality. if you actually hear how they describe their products, they say they are good for the size, and how good they look. if you dont want 5+ big black boxes in your living room, Bose is your best alternative, and yes they are expensive, but its like calling a 3lb laptop expensive vs an 8lb laptop. and then complaining that the lighter one is slower.

why i dont like bose is because they disallow their stuff to be sold under a MSRP from an authorized dealer. everything is full priced. if you had to pay full MSRP on other stuff you would be shocked at the prices of most things. yes there are other companies like this as well, such as Oakley, but at least Oakley is top notch quality.

Apple does the same thing. If a store/company is caught underselling, they get dropped like a hat. There are VERY few exceptions to this, though.

I don't hate bose. I just hate (most) Bose owners' attitudes.

Just because you got roped into paying $2000 for your 2.1 doesn't mean it's better than my $500 system. Too bad people that are willing to spend that much money aren't also willing to research.

yes, apple does it too, but i didnt want to bring that up.

$2000 for 2.1??? sorry dont make up shit. a bose 5.1 is $850 the last time i checked. maybe you should do some research.

oh, and i hope that when you say "you" you mean the general public and not me personally, because i dont own a single bose product, and doubt i ever will, unless its part of a car's OEM stereo like in my dads Cayman or something.

Bose used to have a 2.1 setup that was $2k. I didn't make it up. I couldn't tell you what it was; all I remember is that it was in one of their demo rooms at a store in Louisville. Their prices have come down quite a bit since then I would imagine; wouldn't know because I don't shop for Bose.
So, $2k today may be wrong, but you get the point.

Shop for a bose HTIB system and see if you can get one for a decent price compared to others. I just pulled up their site and the cheapest one is $1400. Point was that they are highly priced.

Do you own Bose?... hope you didn't take offense to the 'do the research' comment I made. *shrugs*

Don't tell me you don't know bose owners who think they're king shit just because of the brand they own. If you haven't met any of those guys, then you're lucky. I know quite a few.

Bose 321 GSX retails for 1500. It is 2 speakers and a sub.

A lot of the markup on Monster over other brands is pure profit at the store level. Best Buy's employee discount program is based off of the cost of an item. It's something like 5% above cost.

I had my cousin buy me a set of Monster Cable 4-Ch RCAs (Pre-amp connects) with his discount. Shelf price: $98. I paid like $20, and Best Buy still made 5% of that.
