NAVI Welcome Screen Hack!

I Just followed seamonkey420's web page
http://seamonkey420.tech-recipes.com...cide_hack.html
for the Nav Hack, and now have my daughter and grandaughter on my opening NAV screen!
Thanks Seamonky!!!

Just a few additions and/or hints I came up with that gave me problems

1. You can get Paint Shop Pro X for a free 30 day trial at Corel.

2. To save your picture file to 8 bit, you need to "decrease the color depth"
go to "Image", "Decrease Color Depth" and then select 256

3. bysin.exe will only run on a file called "Opening1.bmp", so when you run the 8to16.exe file, have the output named "Opening1.bmp" (or rename whatever you called it to "Opening1.bmp"

4. A file is missing on step 5. UPDATE_APL needs to be copied to the DVD/CD

i knew an easier way to do this but the dude's website doesn't work anymore

jasonandre <---is his ID here

and I didn't have to use dumb 8to16.exe crap... confused the hell out of me with the that

i just made my own with photoshop(i don't know anymore!!!) and simply burned it with the files and loaded up...no 8to16.exe stuff

MAYBE if you sent the unit out to a navi-hack company.

if my navi can play DVD's i'll be ALL Over it

check out www.nav-tv.com
I know they make things for the Acura, and they can do tons of stuff for some very difficult navigations, like back up cameras, dvd playback, adding tv tuning and other video inputs.

I hacked my NAVI in early May and blogged about it:

http://www.averageadmins.com/blog/20...splash-screen/

I also posted some photos and some of the links I used to complete the task. Very cool! The only thing is, I am planning on performing an audio install (I already have all of the components... just waiting on a buddy of mine to have some free time) over the next 3 weekends and have to disconnect the battery which, according to most links I have seen about this, will revert the NAVI screen back to the factory default... That's why I roll with my hacked CD in the ride incase my battery goes dead, etc.

Very cool hack! Works like a champ!

I copied to a DVD+RW jist now, got to the point where it says Downloading software and then it gives me a Check Dish screen.

I used both CDRW and DVD+RW, both Imation.
Any thought why I am getting this?

I have the 5 files copied from the original includeing among the 5 is one of the updated one with the new .bmp.

The system most likely is not capable of reading rewritable (RW) discs. Try using non-rewritables...CD-R, DVD-R, or DVD+R. I've had no trouble with those.

I used a regular Imation branded CD-R and a Staples branded DVD+R with no problems. I'm sorry you're having trouble.

I will try redoing the whole process again. Perhaps you can send me a good Opening1.bmp for me to test?

I folloed the Geocide or however u spell it's guide and used a .bmp from this site. Went to PS CS2 to convert to 16bit, all seem ok but I will try again. Maybe the .bin is just bad.

It should be 5 files total to the DVD+R or CDR, right? (just want to make sure that is what I am understanding from the guide).

It's been awhile since I've done it, but take a look here too:

Navi Hack Guide

In there is the whole process redone using Adobe Photoshop. There is even a link with sample backgrounds for you to try out.

Yeah, that's getting into programming which is currently outside of my expertise.
