DIY: Retrieve radio S/N used for Security Code.
I couldn't post in the DIY Audio for some reason, and this area looks like the next best thing. Plus this is a easy procedure and doesn't "fully" give you the code just yet.
This simple procedure allows you to retrieve the S/N for the factory deck you have in your Honda, which then you could call up your stealership and request the security code. 1. Put your key into ignition and turn to ON position: II 2. While holding 1 & 6 on your radio; power it on 3. The S/N will appear momentarily, record this Some dealerships will not give the access code over the phone some of the nicer employees will since you already have the S/N. There are 3 codes which will appear for each S/N just try all three, one should work. Maximum amount of tries if 5 times, then the deck will lock up. However, if this occurs simply disconnect your battery for a few mins and the counter will reset again :) |

What about our security?
Serial number isn't useful without the dealership. From experience if your radio ever requests a code (because you disconnected the battery or so) and you lost your code: 1) Call the dealership. If you bought the car from them it is easier. Tell them your vin number and they can provide the code. Somehow this doesn't always work out though. 2) Dealership says they can't find the code. They need your serial number and will ask you to bring the car in and they will give you the code in person. 3) If you didn't buy the car from the dealership or you brought your car used. They will ask you to bring the car down in person to show proof of ownership. They "might" be able to give you your code by Vin number (but it doesn't always work). 4) Same situation as #3 but they need your serial number to find your code. Some dealerships will be nice enough to do it for free but I find that rare since this is a good opportunity to make money. They will suggest that there will be a service and labor fee to remove your radio/navi to look up your serial number. I was quoted "$75" and I have heard from others it would be "$20/hr". Yes it is ridiculous. When my aunt's 1998 Accord needed the code I already did the steps what OP posted and smack the salesman across the face with the serial number. Got my code less than 2mins and I was out the door. So as you can see jlannoo. Honda's security is quite good for the OEM radio/navi. And no you can not find the codes online or use some form of a keygen. I already have look into it. |

Oh its just the same serial number that on the back of the unit? I misread the post. I thought it was a number that should be hidden that gave you easy access to the code. my bad lol |
