Attaching amp to sub box?

Is attaching an amp to the sub box ok? Will it not rattle the crap out of the amp? I want to change my current encosure to a bigger one which i can attach my pioneer premier series 1200watt amp. Thanks in advance.

It's fine, just secure it at all 4 corners and keep everything nice and tidy. I would also recommend securing the box because a sliding box with amps/wires connected to it is a bad thing.

I mounted my PDX to the box and it has slid around on me a little bit. On the PDX's, the controls have a screw-down cover that I keep having to tighten b/c it rattles it a bit, but nothing to bad I think.

Attach it to the back rest instead, attaching an amp to a sub box is not recommended but it's very convenient so that's why so many people do it

I don't recommend it, but if your going to do it make sure its attached to the box with the most internal bracing

You could also consider a stealth install under a seat...
Less wiring to trunk and nothing but a nice speaker line to the sub box?

Although I'm considering an amp-to-box install myself as I've got an original 10w6 in a box.. just needs amp install... I guess on the cheap for now just do the speaker level tap to the stock sub. Though I really would like to do a full 5-channel install and be done with it with mercman's kit, line level straight from head unit. Sorry... TMI. :)

its not recommended. i have seem more amps go bad that are mounted to boxes than anywhere else. also if someone breaks into your trunk he would be able to get both your box and amp in one swipe. at least make them work for it.

Exactly.. I'd rather just be out a box and a driver vs the whole shebang.

+1 for under-seat amp install, FTW! This is where my amps live, and they are stealth, with the added bonus that even if someone decided to steal what I've got, they'd need time and tools

So, are you guys recommending under the front passenger's seat? Is there enough room for a decent size amp?
Or are you talking about under the rear seat (I didn't figure there would be enough air for cooling)...

Sorry for the threadjack...
and thanks for the opinions...

Underneath the passenger or driver's seat. I have 2 amps in my car, one underneath each seat

There is room for a decent-sized amp - I have the Alpine MRP-F300 and Alpine MRP-M350, and they both fit just fine. The only thing you sacrifice is foot-room space for the rear seat passengers.

Why not go with the spare tire well? Or build a simple false floor?

Under the seat works fine, too. Just throwing out options.

how would you go around securing the box? Screw seems unreliable to handle that much weight

Its more reliable than you think. The carpet will generate enough friction paired with the L brackets. The weight of the driver and box should also help.
