Front stage question
I am possibly taking the upgrade route and am considering going with an actively x-over 3-way front stage (7", 2" dome mid, 1" tw). Has anyone considered using the little window area, forward of the mirrors in the Civic sedan, as a "pod" for say a tweeter and midrange dome? I thought the outside could be replaced with a fiberglass piece to match the car or dinok'd (flat black tint) on the inside. This area seems large enough to provide space for even a 3" mid with proper fabrication. It is high enough as well to provide proper imaging and on-axis response.
Any thoughts? Does anyone have photos of an istall utilizing this method? Thanks! |

I don't know how it would look outside the window, I have an Si so this is not possible. I'm doing a 3 way active install as we speak w/ 2" Dayton Dome Mids in the kicks, I'm going to try the tweeters in the kicks as well or I might decide to move them up to a pillars. Then 6.5 focals are already in the door.

I did this for midrange & tweeter at first, but went back and took the tweeter out. Notacop (linked above) had a shop do it for tweeter only. Bastards stole my idea. :)
What I have is not complete. I "finished" in April after a couple months off & on working on it. I'm going back to wrap my entire a-pillar in grill cloth so that it will all look as one solid piece. But, here's pictures of the build process and how it currently looks. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() When I re-do them in the coming months I"m going to fire my midranges off axis and straight across the dash rather than on-axis. When I fired on-axis it caused problem with the driver's side fitting; the outer portion of the midrange sticks out about a 1/2" and it's aggravating to look at. |

Thanks. I would love to see how it turns out.
I am surprised q-forms or someone like this has not marketed a piece like this in mass production. They could even include (or sell seperately) stickers to cover the glass on the outside that would match the car...it would be ideal... |

A lil freeback of the project I did last night. I played around with tweeter placement. I don't have picks up, but I stole someones pic of their kickpanels. I placed the tweeters in the red circle. A they are PERFECTLY imaged. I didn't play w/ time aligment or anything yet, but you should def consider this spot. I'll take picks tonight and post them up tom.
