Illumination + and - ?

The Civic plug wiring shows a + and - pin for the lighting dimmer, but my aftermarket HU only has a single orange wire for the lighting control. I assume the wire is for the illumination + pin, but does the - wire need to be grounded? I'm planning on installing a Kenwood DNX7100. Also, my car doesn't have an amp, I'm told, so should I only use the speaker out wiring on the harness or can I use the preamp outputs from the HU? thanks
