LOC Install question with non-premium sound

I recently purchased the NE-7V LOC from David Navone:
http://www.autosound2000.com/adaptor_products.htm

as well as these speaker harness connectors from Crutchfield:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-telgMvY...ker&i=12071012

It looks like most people have just T-tapped their LOC's into their factory sub harness, but I don't have one in my LX. I had figured I would just not use my rear speakers and instead, I would solder these connectors directly to the LOC, thus having a direct, plug-n-play LOC. The directions for the LOC says that it can soldered directly to the speaker terminals, but does it have to be? Would the absence of the rear speakers in the circuit cause a problem?

What are you trying to install? Speaker or subs?

I tapped my rear speaker line for my LOC for my sub's amplifier. Is this what you're asking?

This LOC is going to feed my sub amp.

Well, that's kind of what I'm asking. I am a little on the paranoid side in terms of my own wiring abilities, so I don't like cutting / tapping into harnesses when I don't have to. I just wanted to use the rear speaker wires for the sub and ditch the rear speakers (I unplugged them the other day and didn't miss them). I just wanted to make sure that feeding the speaker wires directly to the LOC was acceptable.

Yep, it's how mine is wired.

The only reason I kept rear speakers is so I don't lose all my music when navigation talks to me.

have fun soldering back there... lol. I would recommend using crimpers and little connectors instead, or maybe a vampire/t-tap to make things easier. Soldering on your back = burnt face? haha

That's another reason I liked this setup was because I could solder the connectors and LOC together outside of the car and then just plug them in.

i soldered it to my rear speakers. You gotta get in the trunk and lie on your back lol. Wether or not you want to solder, you're going have to do some sort of wire/insulation cutting.

Well in the installs that I've seen with ppl tapping into the factory sub harness, they then left the factory sub unplugged. This would essentially be what I would be doing only leaving the speakers unplugged instead of a the sub. I would then be "tapping" into the wires, but on the side of the extra connectors I bought instead of the existing Honda harnesses. Right?

The main reason I want to know is whether this will hurt the LOC (or the HU). I was wondering if this would cause an issue of the LOC receiving too much current, but my friend said it might more be an issue of differing impedances (LOC vs. HU).

Does that make any sense?

from my understanding, the point of the LOC is to convert the signal. I mean I could be completely wrong, but like I said, that's how mine is wired and it's not broken... yet. =]

Planning to do a bass knob at all? I found it helps a lot... especially if you have rear passengers. You can still listen to music and not kill their ears. I only have a 12" and sitting in the back with the sub on sucks.

You are right.

I have a 10" (elemental designs 11kv2) and my rear passengers complain its hurts their ears or it vibrates their body too much (only the girls say that)..... I WISH I COULD SIT IN THE BACK OF MY CAR lol.

That was another added benefit of making my sub my "rear speakers"... I could just fade the speakers to the front to turn down the bass.

Guys, I appreciate the input, but I'm not trying figure out what an LOC does, I'm trying to figure out how to wire one. You guys are both currently using your rear speakers as well as your sub, right? I'm just trying to figure out if I have to use the speakers at all...

liuh, you said you only plugged your speakers in to keep your music when navi was talking, was there a point you had the speakers unplugged but the LOC still wired?

Thanks.

Before I had all my speakers (and sub) wired to one LOC, and it was all on the front channel. I now moved my rear speakers back to the stock amp, and then tapped the rear speaker line to add another LOC for the sub's amp.

Hope this clears things up. You don't have to have the speakers connected in order for the LOC to work. (If that's what you're asking)

Yeah, that's what I wanted to know.

I guess what through me was that the instructions said it had to be wired to the existing speakers' terminals, but I emailed David Navone Engineering and they said I could wire it in without the speakers.

Thanks for your help!

I was under the impression most rear outputs are limited in their sonic range? I ran my LOC from the factory HU.

i too have an lx and i wanted to add subs. i understand the whole concept of how to do this using my stock HU. i will be doing the install myself and was wondering if..

..my amp (poweracoustics 1920watts) is too powerful for an LOC??

i will be powering two kicker cvrs with a kicker 4gauge amp wiring kit
