OEM navi problem

I forgot to have navi dvd, so it took me a while to test the nav unit.

From what I searched here, I could boot it up with pc psu.

After inserting the DVD MAP, it rebooted by itself, and then from the screen

I see Navi ECU, GPS Antenna, Display and Radio buttons with all green.

I typed pin number, and it said correct pin.

The problem is that the screen says "detecting... " and all the other buttons are disable(u know buttons get darker) only mic(the button with a speaking head pic) and back(with <- arrow) buttons are white but I can't use them.

Did anyone have the same problem?

My nav unit is Non-premium XM-ready unit for EX sedan.

Is this a navi unit you bought after you got your car? Where are you located? What version of the navi DVD do you have? Are you parked in a garage while you're testing the DVD?

There are a lot of holes in your explanations and questions.

Actually this is about nav retofit. I have non-Nav 07 EX sedan, and I'm trying to install oem nav. DVD version is I gues 6.55A. Before installing this unit, I wanted to test the head unit with computer power supply. Seems like there is no problem with the head unit itself, but somehow I can't pass the diagnose screen. It keeps saying detecting. Wait a minute. Do I need to hook up mic and back button in order to boot the head unit? That's the only thing I missed. Anyway I need someone's help~~

did you buy the unit brand new? if so, you need to hook up a xm antennae to it. also, "detecting..." could be the unit searching for an navi signal. you do not have to hav ethe talk/bacl buttons wired up. mine was installed in my car for weeks wihtout those buttons and it worked perfectly.

i really seem to think that detecting means it is looking for a navi signal....and since i assume you dont have a navi antennae hooked up to it, it cannot find one.

Thanks, but I have navi antenna connected to the unit, since I did it at home, it could be just not getting gps signal. But it looks like other people tried and succeeded to boot up the unit at home.

Do I need XM antenna for this unit though this is just xm ready unit? This is so complicated.

BTW, did you have to replace the instrument wires for installing it? It's so complecated.

if the unit has never been wired up to a car before, it will not work correctly. you need to receive a xm signal for it work wihtout giving you a warning beep.
but IIRC the unit should still do everyhting else, it would just have an annoying beep everytime it turns on.

for a plug and play installation, you must replace the entire instrument panel harness.
Honda Would Not Install!
post 27 has all the parts listed....except for xm components. even though the unit is XM ready, it still needs an external receiver (mounts in the trunk).

Thanks NIGHTHAWKSI. My unit is brand new and never installed yet. Probably that's why. I have all the screws and parts including handle assay, buttons, instrument panel harness, dvd map and so on except xm antenna. I'll post all the parts I have tonight. I hope you check it out and let me know I'm good to go or not.

Thanks~~

the items i hightlighted are things that arent necessary. since your replacing the harness, most of the bolts can be reused. the only things you really needed were what was on the list i posted. the volume/joystick knobs are part of the navi unit...so i dont think you should need them. you have more parts than you need, but are still missing the wire harness for the sunroof/mic and the mic itself.

BTW, to override the xm beep and not have to buy a xm receiver....make friends wiht some1 that has OEM navi and just plug yours into their car. let it boot up and find the xm signal and then disconnect it(only necessary once for the first boot up).
i would just like to mention that i got all the parts to do the install for under $500...excluding mic/mic harness/navi unit...
