Ipod + aux input

Hi everyone,

Been lurking around in the forum for quite sometime but this is my first post. I'm picking up my new Civic LX today and decided to purchase some accessories.

Will this aux cable work with my ipod in the car when I plug it in the aux jack?

Is this price reasonable? I can't seem to find any stores in my area that sells these cables.

That'll work. Have you tried Radio Shack? They probably have a 3 foot cord for cheaper. But yes, that cord will work and that price is reasonable if you can't find an alternative.

I agree with CameronJr9. The cable would work for ya but why not just pick it up at Radio Shack or any other electronic store for that matter.

Yes, Radio Shack, or Fry's, circuit city, etc.. You want a 1/8" male stereo to 1/8" male stereo cable.

Google will also give you a bunch of places to get such a cable online.

Radio Shack stereo cables:

A handy 1 ft cable for $4.99
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=family

6 ft for $4.99
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=family

Dunno why they're the same price. Write down the catalog number and take it to your local Radio Shack.

Rat shack stopped making the 3-ft cable. I got the 1-ft version. Works fine. Too bad the Honda iPod link is worthless as I'd love to have the artist and song text as well as the controls on my dash.

Make sure you get the cable that is labeled "STEREO". The tips have two colored lines (sometimes they're black) instead of just one. Don't get the guitar cables...those are mono. And make sure you plug them in all the way into the jack. With cheap cables, you get cheap plastic covers. Those cheap covers might get in the way of you sticking the plug in the jack all the way in. (That sounded nasty for some reason. :gaygiggle ) Inspect the plug covers before you buy...they're usually visible through the packaging. You likely won't notice the difference in audio quality if you use a "higher quality" cable or go with a brand name like Monster. Besides, if you're using a digital audio player (i.e. iPod), you're playing compressed audio which sounds like sh*t in the first place.

This costs a bit more, but for those who care about audio quality, the Cardas cable is probably the best out there.

Here's one that costs $65 for the one footer...as for whether there's an audible improvement I can't comment.

The wires had better be made out of pure silver!

Might be a stupid question, but here it goes anyway. Do you think that a longer cable (6 ft.) would deteriorate sound quality as well? The reason I'm asking is because it works the same for network cables as well (but to a much larger degree of course).

Yes, the longer the cable, the more noise you'll get. Look for a shielded cable if you get a super long cable.

No reason to get a long cable for this purpose. I'm getting a 6" cardas because the 1 footer I got from radio shack is too long. I keep it in the little compartment below the aux input and with the 90 degree angle connectors, it will work out perfectly.

If you think $65 is a lot to pay for a cable you guys should check out the high end audio market. The power cords feeding my tube amp and SACD player list for $7000 each. Audio is a nutty hobby.

I bought a cable from Walmart for $1.99 it is 3 foot and the sound quality is good. I use it for listening to my PSP in game, dvd, soundtrack modes. It is very cool. My element had the same jack and the kids loved watching DVD's through the stereo system. The PSP is a best all around entertainment for the buck in my opinion.

The Cardas is incredible. It yields more midrange and midbass. Makes a bigger difference than I thought it would.

I just picked up the RCA 6 ft cable from Futureshop (owned by Best Buy). I'll post my thoughts once I get a chance to test it out.
