Critique my choices.

What do you think about the setup I am getting ready to install in the civic?

Headunit - Alpine CDA-9887
Alpine got on the ball again bringing back some functionality that was seen in previous headunits. Should do a great job processing the sound and giving me full speed ipod control.

Amp - Alpine PDX-4.150 Review of amp
Seems to be a really great amp in a small package. 4x150 is very nice although it will be difficult to find components to accept that much power at RMS. Rear channel bridged for sub, fronts for the comp sets. Also great due to its small size allowing me to maximize my trunk space.

Component set - Diamond Audio HEX S600 - 6.5" Set
I debated these a ton. From Focal, MB Quart, PPI, CDT, JL. I needed something that could take 150 watts RMS and still sound good. I was able to hear them off the amp at the store, and they sounded great. I thought they might lack mids but they filled the spectrum.

Subwoofer - Image Dynamics IDQ12d2 V.2
Been using ID subs for about 8 years now. Tried all different kinds. I really just want nice overall sound quality. It will be in a 1.0 ft^3 box sealed. Should produce a great sound with 300 watts. What should I make the crossover cutoff at?

Rears will be left stock powered off the HU. If I feel that the rear fill is not up to par, then I'll swap them with a pair of Diamond coaxials.

I'd go all out ID.. ID just came out with NEW components and NEW IDQ Version 3's. They both look amazing.. I'll probably pick up a set myself once I have the money.

The comps are nice. I already have the sub, but maybe I could return it. But those seem to be really inefficient. And why aren't they listed on their website yet?

ID subs are great. I have the idq10 in my trunk atm and it's awesome. I don't think version 3 are out yet though.

Looks good! I remember when alpine made headunits that didnt have built in amps just for folks who had external amps to drive everything those were the days. The comps look pretty beefy and I bet can handle some lows so I would set the crossover at 100hz or 80hz for your sub. I'd also go with silk dome on the tweeters over aluminum. Good luck!

Def the silk. IMO, the metal dome high's were too harsh.

^x2.

Everything you chose looks good. You may not necessarily need 4.150 if you're not planning on running active. You can just get the 4.100 & bridge for your front comps.

I had planned to set the xover on the amp to off, and use the passive xovers that are included.

???

use the xovers that came with the comps (as they are crossovers for the midwoofer and tweeter) and set your amps high xover to match that or your sub xover.. ie you set your lowpass xover to 100hz for the sub then set your highpass xover for the comps to 100hz.

right, so if you're doing that, and you buy the 150 x 4 you're going to pay $200 extra (give or take) for an extra 200 watts (50*4) you don't need as opposed to buying the 100 x 4. Even if the 100 x 4 isn't enough power for your comps then you can bridge it. That's all I'm saying.

I understand. Though the extra wattage for the sub was the main reason...I was able to get the PDX 150.4 from a local dealer for 450. So not a bad price, and they are authorized dealer.

However I am second guessing my choice with the components. Seems like they have gotten several bad reviews and everyone says they lack mids.

Maybe I'll try the Boston Acoustics PRO60's. I'm sure the 6 3/4 will fit. Do you have any comp sets that you are partial to?

I understand now. Yea, that amp would be great to bridge 2 channels for sub and run a set of comps off the other two.

What's your budget for the comps?

That price for the amp isn't bad. I was quoted the same. If you compare it to Crutchfield's price that's about $150 off. My dealer told me that their regular price is $500. He said that if I bought 2 (which I plan to do) he would sell me two for $100 off each, so $800 bucks. Not bad at all.

That is a pretty good deal.

Well the comps are the most important part of the system to me. So I'd say like 3-400ish internet price.

Send him over to DIYMA and watch his head spin.

OP: If you're worried about midbass (it sounds like you are, at least) the Bostons would not be the best choice as they're a true 6" not a 7" like most everything else available.
