decent low profile 10" or 12" woofer for spare tire?
I'm thinking about laying down some fiberglass inside my spare tire and making a compact box for a 10" or 12" woofer. I then plan on cutting a hole in the plastic floor in the trunk and adding a piece of plexiglass so that the sub can be seen. What I'm looking for is a decent 10" or 12" woofer that is fairly slim. I've got about 6" of depth to work with, but that's measured without and fiberglass laid down. I was thinking about a Type S 10" which is about 4.5" and seems to be a decent woofer from what I've heard. I'm not looking for anything out of this world and don't plan on turning it up all the way to kill my ears either.

There's a lot of "slim" subwoofers out now that would probably perform just fine in that area. I honestly don't know of them all, so search around. I'm pretty sure JL has one. I know Alpine has both type-s & type-r. Kicker has one. MB Quart does, IIRC. Pioneer...etc etc.

Anyway...got off track...most of the sllimline subwoofers thrive on less than .7 cubic feet. As for bang for the buck, look around. Do your homework. You won't get loud, booming bass out of a small subwoofer and small enclosure, but you will get nice, precise, accurate bass that will leave you pleased. There's always a trade-off. You just have to find what you want. |
