Would You Install Your Own Car Alarm???

Would anyone recommend installing there own car alarms???
and if anyone has installed it themselves... How did it go? what tools are needed? and does the installation manual with the alarm help much???

Im wondering because the installation and parts are pretty expensive and if i am able to order an alarm and parts for a better deal and install it myself, i'd rather do that to save a couple $$$....

alarm im planning to get is;

Compustar - 2WSS-AS (alarm with remote start)

if you have never done it before i would recomend having it installed profesionally, there are some many things that could go wrong or get messed up if you don't do it exactly right. You should try and see i someone at a shop would be willing to let you watch them.

its a new car, try not to cut corners this early in ownership, u will pay for it in the long run

yes i would. Only if I had the service manual for the car. Now days cars are so computerized not anyone can do it. I used to do it for a living, it was easy back then. Pwr, gnd, horn or siren, and sensor wires, and test light was all. But now to know where to connect them is tricky. Send it out to a dependable shop, that will warrantee the work and alarm.

I did it because I used to work for an car stereo shop. If I have no experience, I would pay the money to have it done right. If you have some electrical knowledge and the correct tools, it's not that difficult to install.

I install alarms at Circuit City. It is really not that hard when when all the wires and stuff re straight up.

I haven't looked at doing this car yet, but sometimes cars need 2 accessory wires or 2 ignition wires, relays and diodes put in, and some other wierd stuff sometimes.

If you don't have a tech sheet for it, to show you what wires are what and where, I wouldn't do it. Then you would have to find the wires youself just poking around and could take you hours.

NEVER USE A TEST LIGHT on brand new cars. I would say after 1970. Test lights can fry the ECU if you test the wrong wire, also deploy the airbags (usually yellow plugs and connectors).

So if you haven't done one before, let someone do it for you. You will need wire strippers, solder, tape, multimeter, tech sheets, and bunch of other stuff to do it.

I don't want to scare you out of it, of trying to do something yourself, but trying to let you know of the consequences of messing something up, and it's easy to just tap into the wrong wire and cause something to go bad.

If you lived near me, I would probably give you a deal on installation of it, just because I like the car. :) Check around for prices.
