Nav OBDII Access Question

So I am starting my Hack the Nav project. One of the projects I will attempt is a screen that shows you the parameters you select, like Coolant Temperature, from the Can Bus/OBDII stream. I noticed in the diagnostic screen that there seems to be some tire calibration settings. I'm hoping this means that the Nav receives the OBDII stream, as that would make my life much much easier. Has anyone gotten that far into the system to know if we would have access to something like that. And if you did do you know what model the gateway chip is?

I believe you're the first person to attempt anything like this. We have a few software gurus, but no one has been brave enough to try re-programming. While you're in there rooting around, see if you can figure out a way for the Navi to display RDS song information from radio stations.

I'm definitely subscribed for more updates.

I looked pretty good into the RDS info when I got my car but I couldn't find a definitive answer on whether or not the radio had that hardware.

The nav units probably don't have any signal or source from the OBDII system. I would think it might be possible if there was a way to interface it with the nav through a direct input.

I'll check into that. I have some pictures of the interal boards. The chips should tell me what is supported. Maybe Alpine has some docs too that would reveal support for non-documented features.

I bet these Alpine units are based off of a SKU that is similar to their branded products. I know in Toyota's, the navi units are made by Fujitsu Ten, who makes Eclipse (top-notch gear). Their internals of the factory unit are the exact same as the branded ones - minus some color and DVD playback.
