Official Navigation System Flash Memory Compatibility

Thought we could start a thread to let users know what flash memory cards and/or adapters work with the Navigation unit's PCMIA card reader. I'll start it off with the few I've tried and will update this post with the following posts' info.

Please make sure you don't have more than 999 songs on the card and/or folders that are more than 8 levels deep before declaring a card incompatible!

Please also post a link to the exact product if possible!

Flash Memory

Works

1GB Sandisk SD card
2GB Sandisk Memory Stick Pro Duo
8GB Seagate Compact Flash Photo Hard Drive
4GB Crucial Compact Flash
4GB Sandisk Compact Flash
1GB Sandisk Wii SD card
4GB 80X Patriot Compact Flash

Partially Works (recognizes random songs and folders)

2GB 133X Corsair SD card
2GB Corsair MicroSD card
4GB AData Compact Flash: has problems in colder climates see http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/2427644-post33.html

Don't Work

SDHC cards (even when used with SDHC compatible readers)

Card Readers

Works

Sandisk 6 in 1 Card Reader
Sandisk Compact Flash Adapter
CompUSA 5 in 1 Card Reader

Don't Work

...

good info. i have been worried about making a purchase due to incompatibilites with card readers and flash ram. i'm looking for a good 2GB / Card Reader combo. Any proven combinations out there?

This is what I'm running and it works fine. No need for an expensive high speed card for MP3 files.

Crucial CompactFlash 4GB with a SanDisk CompactFlash PC Card Adapter.

I can't remember, but I think I only paid $20 for the card and about $12 for the adapter.

i bought my 8GBs for about $70 on ebay. i used whatever adapter that supports CFII (not CFI, aka 1). i had to modify my adapter to fit the micro-drive because micro-drives are thicker than normal. there's some special adapters for micro-drives but I was $5 too cheap. it's a drive, not flash, but it's never skipped.

If your buying a SD card higher than 2Gb make sure your card reader supports SDHC ( SD standard 2.0 and required by devices 2Gb or higher ). Dont make the same mistake I did which required me to buy another card reader.

Oooo that's an interesting idea there...does an SDHC card work fine if your PCMCIA adapter supports it? Do you have a link to the one you bought?

Sandisk 1gb Wii (white) SD card Somewhat compatible (randomizes songs)

EDIT: Figured it out: it was a filename issue. Should work perfectly.

I'm sure it will work, the manual says what will work in the system, you just can't have over 1,000 songs on it or it won't read past it, so that's pretty much way too big, probably a 4 gig will do the job.

Im using a high speed(80x) patriot 4GB CF card which I paid about $20 for a year ago and use it everyday with no problems. CF is a much better value over sd.
