Canadian 06' DX-G Navigation Retrofit
I have been debating for a while about whether to go OEM, or purchase an aftermarket system, and I have decided to go OEM. I picked up a navi out of an '06 Si (Premium Audio System). I am in the middle of putting together an order for the rest of the parts that I need (or at least what I'm thinking I need). I have read every thread I can find on the conversions, and as most of you are probably aware, no one has documented a proper DIY. Also, as far as I know, no one has converted a Canadian Civic - In Canada unfortunately we can't get navigation in the Civic - so this will be a first (I hope, providing I can pull it off lol). The kicker is all of the American Civic's are built less then an hour away from where I live and shipped to the USA, and yet we can't get it..
I guess my questions at this point are as follows: 1.) Does anyone have the wiring schematics/service info they can e-mail me? (flyride@gmail.com) 2.) Does anyone have any information regarding the difference's between the Premium Audio System navi in the SI and the Regular navi in the EX/SI? (I had heard that the Premium Audio System was externally amplified, and the regular navi was internatally amp'd?) I believe most Canadian Civic's have the standard 160-watt sound system, internally amplified... so I'm not sure if that is going to have any effect on my install. 3.) This system I have just says "XM Radio" on it (it doesn't say "XM Ready"), so I'm assuming it came standard with an XM antenna... I'm pretty sure because this navi is out of a used Civic, it will boot without the xm antenna & 'pong' error noise, but wanted to double check...? 4.) Does anyone has the pinout info to boot the navigation off a 12 volt power supply outside the car? I found this thread but it's not much good without a diagram indicating which connectors are which: OEM Navigation retrofit questions 5.) Has anyone successfully implemented the steering wheel controls and/or mic? The DX doesn't have the two map lights, sunroof switch and mic console up in the headliner, so I want to implement that as well, I'm hoping the 'sunroof harness' works for that. xxmstajxx mentions purchasing 'cable reel' for the steering wheel, and it was a waste of money? Was that only because he decided not to use the steering wheel controls? rbf351 who did the install on Mike's car (Type X) also said that these parts where a waste of money... 1- Instrument Wire harness 32117-SVB-A01 2- Sunroof Wire harness(mic) 32156-SVA-A11 3 - cable reel .... but he didn't explain why! Does anyone know? I'm assuming I would need the sunroof harness as it looks like the mic plugs into it? Or maybe they mean it's a waste of money because you could just solder a couple of wires and save the $$? 6.) My car has the AUX input on it (part of the DX-G package), I'm hoping that will still be usable, does anyone know if the navi Civic's have an auxilary option? 7.) Any potential problems/differences/reasons why a Civic from Canada can't have navi? 8.) Does anyone know of a Canadian Honda retailer that will give you a competitive price on parts like hondapartsdeals.com / hondaautomotiveparts.com and these other websites? I called my local dealer and a lot of the parts are more than double the price up here... 9.) Any other general tips or information would be greatly appreciated... maybe someone know's of another thread or forum that has covered some of these issues? Thanks in advance guys! -Adam |

Thanks for all your help guys (lol jokes). I also found this Honda service website ( https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/logon.asp ) where you can purchase the schematics, so I rigged it up to a PC power supply and system board and got it working... should have the install totally completed one night next week to anyone interested... should be the first Canadian Civic I know of with navigation...

Noice, not the first Canadian Civic with Navi though. *maybe first installed* I just need the time to rip apart my dash to install it too. *sighs*
Just install the puppy. I bought the Dual Din plate off ebay, came with all the mounting stuff you'll need. More pics! I opted not to do the Steering wheel controls, and I didn't go with the OEM nav unit. Did I mention morepics *grins* Good luck bro, you're gonna love the OEM navi... :) |

Sweet! I will post more pix when I complete the install (hopefully one night next week). So maybe first Canadian OEM navi installed? I dunno, I heard of one other guy thinking about it, but not sure if he ever followed through... post some pix of your install when it's done too, I'd love to see it...

Yeh'mon, *grins* Won't be tackling mine until probably end of July when it's nice and humid, hot outside *grins* or mid August.
Stop the thinkin start the tinkering! Mods rule! DX-G's rock for mods, did the Aux mode a while ago, have interior lighting that I made going in tomorrow. Did all my own tint too! WOOT! Saweet, can't wait to see your install!

I got my navi for $525 and the parts needed (bezel, gps receiver, brackets, bolts, etc) came to $67 at HondaPartsDeals.com + $63 for shipping ($130 total) to Canada. Everything was cheaper at Majestic Honda (www.hondaautomotiveparts.com), my order came to $80 SHIPPED, but then 3 days later they e-mailed me and cancelled my order saying they don't ship outside the USA anymore!! Well their website says they do. So irritating, wasted almost a week... Anyway, the way I'm doing it I'll have to splice a few wires, but if you want it to be entirely plug-n-play, it would cost roughly $400 for the parts + the cost of the navigation. I figure I can use the $300 I save toward an HFP aero kit.. :) Oh ya, I guess I should also mention I decided to not install the steering wheel controls for the voice part of the navigation, and I'm not installing the mic... so I don't need the sunroof harness, mic and buttons. So that's part of the savings as well. It works out to about $175 if you want to do that, plus a fair bit more work. You will need the tool to take off your steering wheel, etc. I could get it, but I figured for the amount I'm actually going to use the voice part it wasn't worth it for me. I'm also not purchasing the XM antenna at this point; I don't use it, but also because I bought a used navi out of another car I won't need it. If you purchased a brand new OEM unit you would need it, or it would nag for it everytime you turn your car on... *pong* So other than voice controls & XM everything else will be functional. It's not complicated if: A.) You have the wiring schematics B.) You are comfortable doing basic disassembly/reassembly & splicing/soldering wires (basic electrical skills) C.) You can find the information / talk to the right people. Happy motoring!
